Alright, let’s talk about this American Idol country gem, y’know? That singing fella, Scotty McCreery. Yep, that’s the one. Heard about him on the TV, the one with all them singing folks.
So, this Scotty fella, he was just a young’un when he went on that American Idol show. Real young, like my grandson Billy, just out of high school. But boy, could he sing! He sang them country songs, the kind you hear on the radio when you’re driving your old pickup to the market.
He won the whole dang thing, you know? Beat out all them other singers. Must’ve been good, real good. Folks seemed to like him, voted for him and all that. My neighbor, Martha, she wouldn’t shut up about him. Said he had a voice like an angel. Well, I don’t know about angels, but he could sure carry a tune.
- He sings them songs about life, y’know?
- Love, and heartbreak, and working hard.
- Stuff we all know about, even us old folks out here in the sticks.
They call him a “country gem,” that Scotty. I guess that means he’s special, like a shiny rock you find in the field. He’s got that somethin’ special, that’s for sure. A voice that sticks in your head, lyrics that make you think about your own life. He ain’t one of them fancy pants singers, always wearin’ shiny clothes and whatnot. He seems like a good ol’ boy, down to earth. Probably likes his fried chicken and mashed potatoes just like the rest of us.
After he won that show, he went on to make records, lots of ’em. Heard ’em on the radio sometimes when I’m cookin’ supper. He sings about real stuff, things regular folks can understand. Not like that other music, the kind the young’uns listen to, full of noise and yelling. Scotty’s music is good for the soul, makes you want to tap your feet and sing along.
They had this game, CodyCross I think it was called. Martha’s grandkids were playin’ it. And wouldn’t you know it, there was a question about Scotty being an American Idol country gem. See? Even the game folks know he’s somethin’ special. My grandkids tried to figure it out, but they’re always glued to their phones, not payin’ attention to nothin’. I told ’em, “That’s Scotty McCreery, you young whippersnappers! Listen to your grandma for once!”
He seems like a nice young man, respectful. Not like some of them young folks today, all loud and rude. He sings about God and family and stuff like that, good values. That’s important, y’know? We need more young people like him in this world, setting a good example. Makes me feel proud, even though I don’t know him personally. Like one of our own made it big.
They had a big finale on that show, when he won. Folks were cheering and clapping, it was a whole big to-do. I bet his mama was proud, real proud. Every mama wants their kid to do good, to be happy. And Scotty, he seemed real happy up there on that stage, singing his heart out.
And he’s still singin’, still makin’ music. That’s what I like about him. He ain’t just a flash in the pan, here today and gone tomorrow. He’s stickin’ around, doin’ what he loves. And that’s a good thing, a real good thing. Shows you what hard work and a good voice can get you. Heard he even got married and has kids of his own now. Time sure does fly, doesn’t it? Seems like just yesterday he was that young fella on TV.
So yeah, that Scotty McCreery, he’s a country gem alright. A good singer, a good man, and a good example for all them young folks out there. And that’s all there is to it, plain and simple. He reminds me of the good old days, when music was real and singers sang from the heart. Makes an old lady like me feel young again, listening to his songs.
