Alright, listen up, y’all. You wanna get outta Jersey this winter? Don’t wanna freeze your butt off, huh? I hear ya. This old woman’s been around the block a few times, and I know a thing or two about gettin’ away. So, let’s talk about some weekend getaways from NJ winter, alright?
First off, you gotta think about what you wanna do. You like snow? You hate it? You wanna ski or just sit by a fire and drink somethin’ warm? Makes a difference, ya know.

If you’re one of them crazy folks who likes the cold, then head on up north, I say. Plenty of places up in them mountains where you can ski your heart out. I hear tell there’s this place called the Poconos. Lots of snow, they say. And big ol’ fancy resorts where you can warm up after freezin’ your behind off all day. You can find good deals if you look around, especially if you go durin’ the week, but who does that? Weekends is when you get away, that’s what I always say.
But if you’re like me and you’d rather be warm as a bug in a rug, then head south, honey. Head south. Florida, that’s the place to be. Sunshine, beaches, palm trees… ah, it warms my old bones just thinkin’ about it. Now, Florida can be expensive, you know, all them fancy hotels and such. But you can find cheaper places if you look a little harder. Maybe somethin’ off the beaten path, ya know? A little motel, maybe. Or a rental house. Just make sure it’s got good heatin’ for them chilly nights, even Florida can get a little nippy sometimes.
- Think about what you wanna do: Skiing? Relaxing? Sightseeing?
- Set a budget: How much money you wanna spend? Don’t go breakin’ the bank!
- Consider the drive: How far you wanna drive? You don’t wanna spend all weekend in the car, do ya?
And listen, don’t go bookin’ the first thing you see. Shop around a bit. There’s all kinds of websites these days where you can compare prices. You can find some real steals if you take your time. And don’t forget to check them review things. See what other folks are sayin’ about the place before you go bookin’ it. Nothin’ worse than gettin’ to a place and findin’ out it’s a dump.
Another thing, think about what you wanna eat. You wanna cook your own food? Or you wanna eat out all the time? If you’re gonna cook, make sure your rental place has a kitchen. And if you’re gonna eat out, well, then you better have some extra cash on hand, ’cause eatin’ out ain’t cheap these days, let me tell ya. I remember when you could get a whole meal for a dollar. Them days are long gone, honey.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little closer to home, there’s always New York City. Big city, lots to see and do. Museums, shows, fancy restaurants… you name it, they got it. But it can be mighty expensive, too. And crowded. Lord, that city is crowded. But if you don’t mind a little hustle and bustle, it can be a fun place to visit. Just be prepared to spend some money, is all I’m sayin’.
Or maybe you wanna go somewhere quiet and peaceful. A little cabin in the woods, maybe. Just you and the birds and the squirrels. That sounds mighty nice, doesn’t it? You can build a fire, read a book, just relax and unwind. Plenty of them little places in the woods around here, if you know where to look. Just be careful, though. Don’t want to get lost out there. And make sure you got plenty of wood for the fire. Nothin’ worse than freezin’ your butt off in the middle of nowhere.

So there you have it. A few ideas for weekend getaways from NJ winter. Just remember to plan ahead, shop around, and don’t spend more money than you can afford. And most importantly, have fun! You deserve a little break, y’know. We all do. Now go on and get outta here and enjoy yourself. You only live once, after all.
One last thing: Don’t forget to pack warm clothes! Even if you’re goin’ south, it can get chilly at night. And bring a good book, just in case you get bored. And some snacks, too. Can’t forget the snacks. Alright, now I’m done. Go on and have yourself a good time!
And if you are traveling far, be sure to check that car of your’s. Don’t want to end up on the side of the road, do ya? Make sure your tires are good and your oil is changed. And fill up your tank before you go. Gas is expensive these days.
And be sure to let someone know where you’re going, alright? Just in case something happens. You don’t want people worryin’ about you. And bring your phone, but don’t be glued to it all the time. Look around and enjoy the scenery! You paid good money to get away, might as well make the most of it.
One more thing, I promise this is the last thing, don’t forget to bring your medications! This old woman forgets things sometimes, you young folks probably do too. And your toothbrush! And your comfy shoes! Okay, okay, I’m done now. Go on, get out of here!
