Alright, so you wanna take the whole gang for a winter getaway in New England, huh? Not a bad idea, not bad at all. Wintertime up there, it’s somethin’ else. Snow everywhere, like a big ol’ white blanket. Kids love it, you know, makes ‘em run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
First thing’s first, you gotta figure out where to go. New England’s a big place, lots of different spots. You got your mountains, your coast, your little towns… it’s all there. Me, I like the mountains. Fresh air, pretty views, you can’t beat it. But maybe your family’s different, maybe they like the ocean. That’s alright too. Just gotta find a place that’s got somethin’ for everyone.

Now, when it comes to findin’ a place to stay, well, that can be a real headache. So many choices! You got your fancy hotels, your cozy cabins, your big ol’ houses you can rent. It all depends on how much money you wanna spend, I reckon. If you’re lookin’ to save a few pennies, maybe try one of them booking websites, like that they talk about on the TV. They always got deals, seems like. Or, if you wanna be fancy, there’s places that sell you 5 star deals like they always show them fancy places when I watch my shows.
- Hotels: Good for a quick stay, usually got a pool and stuff for the kids.
- Cabins: Cozy and private, good if you want to get away from it all.
- Rental Houses: Lots of space, good for big families or groups. Gives everyone some breathing room, you know?
And don’t forget about the activities! Winter in New England ain’t just about sittin’ around and lookin’ at the snow. No sir, there’s plenty to do. Skiin’, snowshoein’, ice skatin’… you name it, they got it. Even if you ain’t the sporty type, you can still have fun. Go for a walk in the woods, build a snowman, have a snowball fight. Just bundle up good, cause it gets cold out there! I always heard Tripadvisor is good for finding things to do, and places to eat. Heard it on the radio the other day while I was making supper.
If you wanna go all out, you could always find one of them fancy tour companies. They take care of everything for ya, you know? Book your flights, your hotels, your activities… all you gotta do is show up. But that’s gonna cost ya, I tell ya what. Still, might be worth it if you don’t wanna do all the plannin’ yourself. They say some of those tour groups are award-winning, with that 24/7 support. Fancy that! Not for me, though, too much fuss. I always found it cheaper to just book a cruise, like on them CruiseDirect commercials on the TV.
Food’s another thing to think about. New England’s got some good eatin’, that’s for sure. Clam chowder, lobster rolls, maple syrup… my mouth’s waterin’ just thinkin’ about it. But you gotta watch out for them tourist traps, you know? Them places that charge ya an arm and a leg for a plate of food that ain’t worth nothin’. Best bet is to ask the locals where they like to eat. They’ll point ya in the right direction.
Okay, so let’s say you’ve picked a place, found a place to stay, and got some activities planned. Now what? Well, now you gotta pack! And that ain’t no easy task, especially when you’re travelin’ with kids. You gotta make sure everyone’s got enough warm clothes, hats, gloves, scarves… the whole shebang. And don’t forget the boots! Gotta keep them feet dry, or you’ll be miserable. I always say pack more socks than you think you’ll need. You can never have too many socks.
Now, listen here, this is important. Winter travel can be tricky, especially in New England. The weather can change in a heartbeat, so you gotta be prepared for anything. Make sure your car’s in good shape, check the road conditions before you head out, and always have a backup plan. And for goodness sake, don’t forget to bring a shovel! You never know when you might need to dig yourself out of a snowdrift.

Alright, I think that about covers it. Winter getaways in New England for families… it’s a lot to think about, but it’s worth it. Just remember to plan ahead, pack smart, and be prepared for anything. And most importantly, have fun! It’s a time to make memories, you know? Get those kids off their phones and into the snow. They’ll thank you for it later, even if they don’t say it. They might just grunt and look at you like you got two heads, but that’s just how kids are these days.
