This Christmas, oh boy, it’s a big deal in my family. We get together, the whole bunch of us. Gotta make it right, you know? This year, I’m trying to get it all straight. The right family Christmas, that’s what I’m aiming for.
Getting Ready for the Big Day
First things first, gotta get the house ready. That means cleaning, top to bottom.
- Dusting everything in sight.
- Making the floors shine. My knees ain’t what they used to be.
- Clean the windows so you can see the snow, if it comes, that is.
Then there’s the tree. We always get a real one. Smells like Christmas, you know? The little ones, they love decorating it. Tinsel and lights, all over the place. The lights, make sure they work, or else it’s a mess.
Food, Food, and More Food
Oh, the food. That’s the best part, ain’t it? Gotta have a big turkey. Or a ham. Maybe both, if there are enough mouths to feed.
- Turkey or Ham? Both. Always both.
- Mashed potatoes, gotta have those.
- Gravy, lots of gravy. The more gravy the better.
- Stuffing, the kind with the sausage. My grandbaby loves that.
- That green bean thing. Don’t rightly remember what it’s called.
- Pies, oh the pies. Apple, pumpkin, pecan.
Gotta start cooking early. Real early. Like, before the sun’s up early. Everything’s gotta be just right. Christmas dinner, it’s the most important meal of the year, you know. No pressure, but do not mess this up.
Presents and Such
Then there’s the presents. Oh, the presents.
- I try to get something for everyone.
- It ain’t easy, keeping track of what everyone wants.
- The little ones, they’re easy. Toys, toys, toys.
- The older ones, that’s harder. Clothes, maybe.
- Gift cards, those are good. Let them pick what they want.
Gotta wrap them all, too. That takes time. And make sure you don’t mix them up. It’s hard to remember sometimes. My eyesight is not as good. But I manage. I always do.
The Family’s Coming
Everyone comes to my house. My kids, their kids, everyone. It’s a full house, let me tell you. Loud, but nice. It’s good to have everyone together. We eat, we talk, we laugh. We remember the old times. The good old days, you know?
- My oldest, he always tells the same stories.
- My daughter, she helps in the kitchen. God bless her.
- The grandkids, they run around, making a ruckus.
- It’s all good, though. It’s family. Christmas is for family.
Christmas Eve, that’s a special night. We go to church. Sing the songs. It’s important, you know? To remember what it’s all about. Then we come home, have some hot cocoa. The kids open one present each. Just one. Gotta save some for morning.
Christmas Morning
Oh, Christmas morning. The kids are up early. Real early. They can’t wait to open their presents. It’s like a tornado hit the living room. Paper everywhere. But it’s a good kind of mess. A happy mess, if you will.
We have breakfast. A big one. Eggs, bacon, pancakes. Gotta have energy for the day, you know? And more coffee. Lots more coffee.
- Presents. Toys. Clothes. Happy faces.
- Breakfast. Big breakfast. More coffee.
- Family time. Best time.
Then, more family time. We play games, maybe. Watch some Christmas movies. Just be together. That’s what it’s all about, you know? Being together. Family Christmas, that’s what I call it. It’s a mess. But it’s a good mess.
Don’t Forget the Meaning
It’s easy to get caught up in all the presents and the food. But you gotta remember what it’s really about. It ain’t about the stuff. It’s about being with the people you love. That’s the real meaning of Christmas, you know? Love and family. Don’t forget that. And be kind to each other.
The right family Christmas, it ain’t about being perfect. It’s about being together. And being happy. And eating lots of good food. And maybe having a little nap after dinner. That’s what I think, anyway. And having some leftovers. Leftovers are important.
So, this year, I’m gonna try my best. To make it a good one. A right one. For my family. Because that’s what matters. Family. And love. And turkey. And pie. Lots of pie. And gravy. Gotta have lots of gravy. Can never have enough of that.
