Is Commense Fast Fashion? Well, Let Me Tell Ya Somethin’
You know, these days, clothes are everywhere. Cheap clothes, fancy clothes, all sorts of clothes. And this “Commense” thing, folks keep talkin’ about it. Is it fast fashion? I ain’t no expert, but I can tell ya what I see.
First off, what is this “fast fashion” anyway? It’s like this, them stores, they get the new styles real quick, make a whole bunch of them clothes, and sell ’em cheap. Then, boom, a week later, somethin’ else is in, and that old stuff? Who knows! They just keep makin’ more and more.
Now, this Commense, from what I hear, they got lots of styles, and the prices ain’t too bad. Sounds kinda fast, don’t it? They in New York and Shanghai, big cities, always somethin’ new goin’ on there. So, they make clothes quick, sell ’em quick, that’s what I’m hearin’. Makes sense to me, people always want the newest thing, just like my grandkids wantin’ the latest toys.
- Lots of clothes: They got a whole heap of different things to wear.
- Cheap prices: Don’t cost an arm and a leg, that’s for sure.
- New stuff all the time: Seems like every time you turn around, there’s somethin’ different.
But here’s the thing, they say Commense is tryin’ to be “sustainable.” Now that’s a big word. Means they’re tryin’ to be good to the earth, not wastin’ stuff. They sayin’ they wanna be “almost carbon zero.” Don’t rightly know what that means exactly, but sounds like they’re tryin’ to keep the air clean or somethin’. But can ya really be fast and good for the earth? That’s the puzzle.
Think about it, if you makin’ clothes so fast, where’s all that stuff comin’ from? And where’s it goin’ when folks are done with it? My grandma used to say, “Waste not, want not.” But these days, seems like everyone’s wastin’ a whole lot.
Young folks, them Gen Z kids, they’re the ones buyin’ all this fast fashion. Twelve to twenty-seven years old, that’s what I heard. They see their friends wearin’ somethin’, they gotta have it too. Peer pressure, they call it. I tell ya, when I was young, we wore hand-me-downs and made do. But times are different now, I guess.
Commense, they say they started in 2021. Not that long ago. Said good style should feel like “common sense.” Well, common sense to me says you can’t just keep makin’ and throwin’ away. That ain’t right.
This whole “fast fashion” thing, it’s got me thinkin’. It’s cheap and easy to buy, sure. But is it worth it? All that stuff pilin’ up in landfills? And what about the folks makin’ them clothes? Are they gettin’ paid fair? Are they workin’ in good conditions? These are things ya gotta ask yourself, you know?
So, is Commense fast fashion? Sounds like it to me. They got the quick turnaround, the cheap prices, all the signs are there. Even if they’re tryin’ to be “sustainable,” it’s hard to see how ya can be both. Maybe they’re doin’ better than some, I don’t know. But fast is fast, and that ain’t always a good thing.
What Can We Do?
Well, I ain’t got all the answers, but I reckon we gotta start thinkin’ before we buy. Do we really need all that stuff? Can we buy things that last longer, even if they cost a bit more? Can we fix things instead of throwin’ them away? Maybe we can teach them young folks to do the same. It ain’t easy, but we gotta try. This earth, it’s the only one we got, and we gotta take care of it, you know?
And Commense? Well, they gotta decide what kind of company they wanna be. Fast and cheap, or slow and good. Can’t have it both ways, not in my book.
