Okay, so I was planning a staycation in NYC, and let me tell you, finding the right hotel was a journey. I wanted something that felt like a real escape, but still in the heart of it all, you know?
First, I started by thinking about where I wanted to be. Most people I know head straight to Midtown. It makes sense, right? You’ve got the Empire State Building, Grand Central, Times Square, Rockefeller Center – all the big names are right there. Plus, Central Park starts at 59th, so you can easily jump in there.
Then I started digging into specific hotels. I heard The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel is super fancy. I mean, apparently, it’s been the go-to spot for celebrities and even presidents since 1930. Sounds a little too high-end for what I had in mind, I wanted something more relaxed.
So, I started looking at different neighborhoods. I’d heard that Chelsea and Greenwich Village are cool areas, especially if you’re new to the city. They’re technically different neighborhoods but they are close, each with its own vibe. Seemed like a good option to get away from the usual tourist traps.
Then stumbled upon The Roxy Hotel in Tribeca. The pictures looked amazing, a little bit industrial, a little bit chic. It seemed like it had a really cool, downtown energy. I saw that the price isn’t too bad and might be my kind of place.
My Staycation Checklist
Here’s what I was really looking for in a staycation hotel:
- Good Location: Somewhere central, but not too hectic. I wanted to be able to walk to cool spots, but also have some peace and quiet when I needed it.
- Cool Vibe: Not too stuffy or formal. I wanted a place that felt trendy and fun, but still comfortable.
- Good Food and Drinks: A nice restaurant or bar in the hotel is always a plus. Especially for a staycation, when you might just want to chill at the hotel for a bit.
- Comfy Room: Obviously, the room had to be super comfy. Good bed, nice shower, maybe even a nice view if I’m lucky.
After all this looking around, I think I’ve narrowed it down. Still gotta make the final call, but I’m feeling pretty good about my research so far. It’s all about finding that perfect balance between being in the middle of the action and having a relaxing, comfortable place to retreat to. Stay tuned, I’ll let you know where I end up!
