So, I’ve been on a mission lately to find some cool swimming holes around the Bay Area. It’s been getting hotter, and I just needed to find some spots to chill out in the water. I started by hitting up the internet, just browsing around, you know?
I was looking for places that were not too crowded. Some information said that “Russian River Secret Spot isn’t really a secret anymore”, I still decided to check it out. And some places are perfect for families.
Then, I picked a few spots that seemed promising. I mean, there’s nothing like a good swim after a hike, right? Or even just a nice, calm beach where you don’t have to worry about, uh, sharks. Yeah, those things freak me out a bit.
My First Stop: Point Reyes
First up, I decided to hit up Bass Lake in Point Reyes. It’s about a 3-mile hike to get there, which, honestly, I was down for. Packed my backpack with some water, snacks, and of course, my swimsuit and towel.
- Headed out early in the morning to beat the heat and the crowds.
- The hike was actually pretty nice. Good views, not too tough.
- Got to the lake and it was beautiful. The water was a bit chilly, but so refreshing after the hike.
- Spent a few hours there, just swimming around, lying in the sun, and enjoying the peace and quiet.
Next Up: Russian River
After that, I wanted to check out the Russian River. I’d heard a lot about it, but some folks online were saying that it’s not really a secret anymore. I thought to myself, “Well, it’s worth a shot.”
- Drove up there a few days later. It was a bit of a drive, but not too bad.
- Found a spot that wasn’t too packed. It was more secluded, which was exactly what I was looking for.
- The water was great. Not too cold, not too warm. Perfect for just floating around and relaxing.
- Stayed there for a good chunk of the day, just soaking up the sun and enjoying the water.
Wrapping it Up
All in all, it was a pretty successful little adventure. I found a couple of great swimming holes, got some exercise, and enjoyed the beautiful nature around the Bay Area. And most importantly, I stayed cool in this heat!
I’m definitely going to be checking out more spots soon. It is said that swimming holes are usually found in freshwater, so I will keep searching for them. If you’ve got any recommendations, hit me up! I’m always looking for new places to explore.
