Okay, so, Memorial Day weekend was coming up, and I really wanted to get out of the city. New York City, you know, it’s great, but sometimes you just need a break from all the hustle. I started thinking, where could I go that’s not too far, but still feels like a real getaway? I did a little digging.
It seemed like everyone was thinking the same thing because the usual places like the Florida and San Diego were super popular. I wanted something a bit more, I don’t know, chill? I remember seeing something a while back about some nice spots in Connecticut and New York state, you know, small towns, fresh air, good food, the whole nine yards.

Start Looking for a Destination
- Browsing: I spent a whole evening just browsing, checking out different towns and what they had to offer.
- Narrowing down: I was looking for a place within driving distance, with some nature, and some good places to eat, and maybe some nice shops to check out.
- Reading reviews: I read a ton of reviews, looked at photos, and tried to get a feel for the vibe of each place.
I finally decided on this place, Woodstock, up in New York state. It just felt right. I mean, it sounded like a perfect escape from the city life. So I booked a little cabin up there for the weekend, packed my bags, grabbed some snacks for the road, and hit the road!
The drive up was pretty smooth. It took me about two hours, which was just perfect. I put on some music, rolled down the windows, and just enjoyed the scenery as I drove. As soon as I got into Woodstock, I could feel the stress just melting away. It was so peaceful, the air was clean, and there were trees everywhere. It was a total change of pace from the city.
I checked into my cabin, which was super cute and cozy. It was even better than the pictures, seriously! It had everything I needed and was tucked away in this really quiet, wooded area. I spent the weekend just exploring the town. There were a lot of quirky shops, and art galleries, and I found a few really good restaurants. I even went for a hike in the nearby woods. It was exactly what I needed. A relaxing weekend in nature, away from the crowds, just chilling and recharging.
Honestly, it was one of the best Memorial Day weekends I’ve had in a long time. I came back to the city feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever came my way. That little escape to Woodstock was just what the doctor ordered. If you’re looking for a quick getaway from the city, I highly recommend it. It’s a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some peace.
