So, I’ve been thinking a lot about this whole dermatology thing lately, and whether or not my insurance will cover it. It’s a bit of a maze, to be honest. I started by digging through my insurance policy, you know, that huge stack of papers they send you that nobody ever reads? Well, I did read it. Or at least, I tried to.
I focused on the parts about dermatology, trying to figure out what’s covered and what’s not. It seemed like they do cover some dermatology stuff, especially if it’s, like, “medically necessary.” That’s what they call it. Things like checking for skin cancer or treating acne, apparently those are kind of a big deal. Makes sense, I guess.

But then I started thinking about the cosmetic stuff. You know, like Botox or those chemical peels you see advertised everywhere? I always wonder if those are covered, cause some days, these wrinkles, you know… So I went on this whole research mission. I made a bunch of calls to my insurance company.
It was a bit of a back and forth to be honest. I would ask about a specific procedure, then I got transferred to another department. Classic, right?
Here’s the gist of what I found out from my insurance company after all that detective work:
- Acne treatments: Some are covered, some are not. Depends on how bad it is.
- Eczema: Seems like they cover this, thank goodness.
- Botox, chemical peels, etc.: Nope. Not a chance. Those are considered cosmetic, so I’m on my own there. I mean, fair enough.
It was a bit of a pain to find all this stuff, but I’m glad I did it. At least now I know what I’m dealing with. And, maybe those wrinkles aren’t so bad after all, right?
Anyway, I just thought I’d share my little adventure. Maybe it’ll help someone else out there who’s also confused about this whole insurance and dermatology thing.
