Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this thing called “power clashing.” Sounds kinda wild, right? Basically, it’s about throwing together clothes that, like, totally don’t match in the usual way. Think stripes with polka dots, or bright pink with neon green. It’s all about being bold and not giving a darn about the “rules” of fashion.
So, the other day, I dug through my closet, pulled out a bunch of stuff that I never thought would go together. I found this crazy floral-print skirt that I got at a thrift store, and I paired it with a striped top that I’ve had forever. Honestly, when I first put it on, I was like, “Whoa, this is a lot.” But then, I started to dig it.

I added some chunky, bright yellow boots that I normally wear with jeans, and a weird, oversized orange belt to cinch it all in. I even threw on a denim jacket with patches all over it. My Initial thought was something like, “There’s no way I’m leaving the house like this,” but after a while the look really grew on me.
I decided to just go for it. I walked out the door, feeling a little self-conscious, but also kinda excited.
- First stop, the coffee shop. The barista, who usually just says “hi” and takes my order, actually looked up and said, “Wow, I love your outfit!”
- Next, I hit the grocery store. A couple of people gave me funny looks, but a few others smiled and one old lady even stopped me to say she liked my skirt.
- Then I went to the park, just to chill for a bit. That’s when these three artsy-looking college kids walked over and asked if they could take a picture of my outfit for some project they were working on.
By the end of the day, I was totally feeling the power clashing vibe. It’s like, when you wear something that’s so out there, it kinda forces you to own it, you know? And when you own it, people notice. It’s not just about the clothes, it’s about the confidence.
A Little Recap
It’s more about having fun and expressing yourself. And maybe, just maybe, inspiring other people to do the same. It’s kinda awesome to realize that you don’t have to fit into some boring mold. You can be as loud and colorful and mismatched as you want, and it’s all good. Actually, it’s better than good. It’s freakin’ empowering.
I guess what I learned from my little power clashing adventure is that it’s okay to break the rules, especially when it comes to fashion, I really recommend it. I think I will try more of this.
