Today, I really wanted to try something new with matcha ice cream. I had a whole tub sitting in my freezer, and I was thinking, “What can I do to make this even better?” So, I started looking around my kitchen, thinking about what goes well with that slightly bitter, earthy taste of matcha.
First, I made myself a simple cup of green tea. I figured, why not double down on the green tea flavor, right? I brewed a cup, and then I tried it with a scoop of the ice cream. The warm tea and the cold ice cream were an interesting mix of temperatures.

- Brew a cup of green tea.
- Take a sip of the hot tea.
- Then take a bite of matcha ice cream.
Then I got a little more adventurous. I remembered a batch of brownies I baked the other day. They were still good, nice and fudgy. I thought, “Matcha and chocolate? Let’s see!” I took a brownie and put a scoop of matcha ice cream on top. Chewing on that fudgy brownie with the melting matcha ice cream was kind of awesome. The textures were totally different but worked well together.
- Take a fudgy brownie.
- Put a scoop of matcha ice cream on top of the brownie.
- Enjoy the mix of textures and flavors.
Making Matcha Fudge
Next, I thought about making matcha fudge. I’ve made regular chocolate fudge before, so I thought, “Why not try it with matcha?” I melted some white chocolate, mixed in some matcha powder, and added a bit of condensed milk to make it creamy. After letting it set in the fridge for a couple of hours, I had this smooth, green fudge. Eating it alongside the matcha ice cream was like a matcha overload, but in a good way! The smooth texture of the fudge went well with the ice cream.
- Melt white chocolate.
- Mix in matcha powder and condensed milk.
- Let it set in the fridge for a couple of hours.
- Enjoy the matcha fudge with a scoop of ice cream.
More Ideas with Matcha Ice Cream
I also experimented with making a matcha ice cream sandwich and a milkshake. I took two cookies – just regular chocolate chip ones – and put a scoop of matcha ice cream between them. Pressing them together was fun, and eating it was even better. The milkshake was super easy. I just blended some milk, a couple of scoops of matcha ice cream, and a little bit of sugar. It was a refreshing drink, especially with the weather being so warm.
