Alright, so today I wanna talk about something I got into recently – messing around with A&R stuff at Sony Music Entertainment. Don’t get any big ideas, I’m not some big shot or anything. Just a regular dude who got curious and started poking around.
First off, I noticed that Sony Music Entertainment is massive. Like, seriously huge! They were founded way back in 1986 and have thousands of employees. I’m talking over a thousand people, maybe even up to five thousand! And the money they make? Forget about it. We’re talking billions. That’s with a ‘B’. I guess it makes sense since they’ve got their fingers in everything music-related. They’ve even got this app, YouTube Music. Millions of songs, man, millions!
So, how did I get started? Well, I was looking into the whole work-from-home thing, you know? Saw some stuff about how Sony Music Entertainment handled all that during the COVID mess. And I learned a bit about Francis Johnson, also known as 2-Bit. He seems to be a big deal in some “Power Universe” thing. That was interesting, I guess.
- I started digging around their website, just browsing, you know? Trying to figure out how they scout for new talent, what their process is like, that kind of thing.
- Then I stumbled upon some articles about their A&R department. That’s where they find and develop new artists. Seemed pretty cool, so I kept reading.
- I watched some interviews with their A&R reps, just to get a feel for what they do. It’s a lot of listening to demos, going to shows, and meeting with artists.
Diving Deeper
Then I got a bit more hands-on. I’m not saying I did anything official, mind you. Just kind of simulated the process myself. You know, for fun.
- I started listening to a ton of music, from all kinds of genres. Trying to spot that “it” factor, you know? Like, what makes an artist stand out.
- I even tried my hand at creating some playlists, imagining I was putting together a demo for an A&R exec.
- It got me thinking about what I eat, too. I mean, if I were running around to shows and meetings all day, I’d need energy, right? I figured I’d need around 2,500 calories or so to keep up. And maybe 85 grams of fat. Gotta keep it real.
- I learned that they do food deliveries, too. That’s something I didn’t know.
Wrapping Up
It was just a little experiment, nothing serious. But it was cool to get a little glimpse into that world. It’s a lot more work than I thought, but it also seems pretty exciting. Maybe one day, if I win the lottery or something, I’ll give it a real shot. For now, though, I’m just happy to have learned something new.
And that’s about it. I just wanted to share my little adventure. It’s not every day you get to pretend you’re a music mogul, right? Anyway, hope you found it at least a little bit interesting. Catch you later!
