Okay, so I wanted to find some good swimming holes, you know, those natural creeks and stuff. Figured I’d share how I went about it ’cause it actually worked pretty well.
The Hunt Begins
First, I just straight-up Googled “creeks for swimming near me”. Seemed obvious, right? I got some general lists, like “top 10 swimming spots in [My State]” type stuff. Good for getting a general idea, but not super specific.

Getting More Specific
Then I started thinking, what kind of creek am I looking for? I wanted something with, like, a little bit of a sandy bank, maybe some rocks to jump off of, but not too crazy. I wanted it to feel safe, you know?
So I added some words to my searches. I tried things like:
- “family-friendly swimming creeks near me”
- “easy access swimming holes near me”
- “creeks with sandy banks near [My City/County]”
- “swimming creeks with rocks near me”
Digging Deeper
The results started getting better. I found some local parks mentioned that I hadn’t thought of. I also saw some blog posts and forum threads where people were talking about their favorite spots.
Then I started using Maps to look at satelite views. It took me a while. You can actually see a lot from those satellite images! I was looking for places where the water looked clear, where there seemed to be some wider spots in the creek, and where there might be some parking nearby.
I also looked up websites for nearby state parks and national forests. Those often have info about water access and trails, and some even have photos. It’s like they want you to come visit.
Checking the Vibe
Once I had a few promising spots, I searched for those specific creek names on social media. I figured if people were posting pictures of themselves having fun there, it was probably a decent spot. Plus, you can sometimes get a sense of how crowded a place gets.

The Final Test
Finally, I just went! I picked a spot that looked good, packed a picnic, and headed out. It was awesome! The water was cool and clear, there was a nice little sandy area, and it wasn’t too crowded. Success!
So, yeah, that’s how I found my new favorite swimming hole. It takes a little bit of digging, but it’s totally worth it.
