Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the idea of unique stays lately, and yurts kept popping up. I live in New York, and I was like, “Can I even find a yurt near the city?” Turns out, yeah, you totally can! Here’s how my little adventure went.
First, I started digging around online. I just googled stuff like “yurts near NYC” and “glamping New York”. A bunch of options came up, some way out in the Catskills or the Hamptons, but I was hoping for something a little closer.

Finding the Right Spot
I narrowed my search. I wanted something within, say, a 2-hour drive. I also wanted a place that had some basic amenities, like, you know, a real bathroom and maybe even a little kitchenette. I’m all for “roughing it,” but I also like my coffee in the morning!
I found a few promising places, mostly through word-of-mouth and those travel blogs that people share around on social media.
I compared prices, looked at photos (gotta make sure it’s Instagrammable, right?), and read a ton of reviews.
Booking and Prepping
After way too much deliberation, I picked a place that looked super cute and had great reviews. It was in a more secluded area, which I liked, but still close enough to a town where I could grab supplies. I booked it for a weekend – just a quick getaway.
Next, I made a list of what to pack. The place provided bedding and basic cooking stuff, but I wanted to bring my own snacks, drinks, and some cozy blankets. I also packed some hiking boots, because, why not?

The Yurt Experience!
The drive up was pretty easy, and when I got there, the yurt was even cooler in person! It was surprisingly spacious inside, with a comfy bed, a little seating area, and even a small wood-burning stove. The bathroom was in a separate little building, but it was clean and had hot water, so, winning!
I spent the weekend just chilling out. I read a book, went for a hike, made a campfire, and just generally enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was so nice to get away from the city noise and just be surrounded by nature.
- Woke up to the sound of birds. Can’t beat that!
- Made coffee on the little camp stove.
- Explored the nearby trails.
- Stargazed at night. The sky was incredible!
Heading Home
Honestly, leaving was the hardest part. I could have easily stayed another few days. I packed up my stuff, cleaned up the yurt, and hit the road, already planning my next yurt adventure. It was the perfect little escape, and I totally recommend it if you’re looking for something different.
The fresh air and the quiet will make me come back for sure.
