So, the wife and I were getting into that rut, you know? Same old dinners, same old TV shows. We needed something new, something we could do together. That’s how this whole “couple hobbies” thing started.
Finding Our Thing
First, we brainstormed. And I mean, really brainstormed. We listed everything, from cooking classes to rock climbing. Nothing was too silly.

- Cooking? She’s a disaster in the kitchen, bless her heart.
- Dancing? Two left feet over here.
- Gaming? Now that got me thinking, and she was open to the idea.
Then, we did some research, and we both kind of liked the idea of starting an indoor herb garden. Seemed easy enough, right?
Getting Our Hands Dirty (Literally)
So, we headed to the local garden center. Picked up some pots, soil, and a bunch of herb seeds – basil, mint, thyme, the usual suspects. It was actually kind of fun, picking out everything together, imagining fresh mojitos with our own mint.
Back home, we laid everything out on the kitchen table. We are not going to lie, the instructions on the seed packets were tiny, we used our phones and search for more clear steps. But we figured it out, eventually.
We filled the pots, planted the seeds, and watered them. Teamwork makes the dream work, as they say.
The Waiting Game (and Some Early Successes)
Okay, this is the part where patience comes in. Which, admittedly, neither of us is great at. We checked on those little seeds every day, sometimes twice a day.
And then, boom! Little green shoots started popping up. First the basil, then the mint. It was like magic. We were high-fiving each other like we’d just won the lottery.

From Seeds to Supper
Now, we’re using our own herbs in our cooking. It’s a small thing, but it’s our thing. We tend to the garden together, we experiment with new recipes, and we enjoy the fruits (or herbs, rather) of our labor.
It’s not always perfect. Sometimes a plant dies (RIP, little thyme plant). But that’s part of it. We’re learning together, growing together, and having some laughs along the way. And honestly, that’s what makes it the perfect couple’s hobby for us.
