Okay, so I’ve been seeing these silicone totes everywhere, right? And I’m like, “I gotta try making one myself!” I mean, they look so practical, perfect for groceries, the beach, whatever. So, I dove in, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey.
Gathering My Stuff
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some materials. I went with:

- Silicone sheets: I found these online. I opted for a thicker kind, figuring it would be more durable.
- Strong adhesive: This was key. I needed something that would really bond the silicone together. I read a bunch of reviews and went with a heavy-duty, waterproof one.
- Scissors: Pretty self-explanatory, had some at home.
- Ruler or measuring tape: Also, something I already had.
- Some clamps: To hold the pieces together while the adhesive dried. Got these from the hardware store.
- Optional: I grabbed some colorful silicone scraps to maybe add some decorations later.
The Cutting and Measuring
This part was a little nerve-wracking, to be honest. I didn’t want to mess up the silicone sheets, since they weren’t exactly cheap. I decided to keep it simple and make a basic rectangular tote. I measured out two large rectangles for the front and back, and then smaller strips for the sides and bottom. I double-checked, triple-checked, and then… I cut!
Gluing It All Together
Now for the fun part – or so I thought. I applied the adhesive to the edges of the silicone pieces, following the instructions on the tube. Then, I carefully lined up the pieces and pressed them together. This is where the clamps came in handy. I clamped the heck out of those seams to make sure they bonded really well. I definitely made sure to work in my garage, windows open, cause that adhesive had a STRONG smell!
Waiting… and Waiting…
The adhesive I used said it needed a full 24 hours to cure completely. So, I had to be patient. I left the tote clamped up in my garage, resisting the urge to peek and prod at it. It was a long 24 hours, I tell you!
The Big Reveal!
Finally, the time came to remove the clamps. I was so excited, but also a little nervous. What if it didn’t hold? I carefully took off the clamps, and… it worked! It actually looked like a tote bag! I was so proud of myself. I even added a little decoration with those silicone color scraps I had, to make it more fun!
Putting it to the Test
Of course, I had to test it out. I loaded it up with groceries, and it held up great! It’s super easy to clean, too, which is a major plus. I’ve taken it to the beach a couple of times, and it’s perfect for holding wet towels and sandy stuff.
So, yeah, that’s my silicone tote adventure. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it. I ended up with a super practical, custom-made tote bag that I’m really happy with. And I learned a thing or two along the way! If you are thinking of making one, be patient with the process and be generous with the adhesive!
