Okay, so, I wanted to make my dorm room feel a bit more like home, you know? More lively. I thought, why not try some plants? But the big question was, what would actually grow on these boring dorm walls without much fuss?
First, I grabbed some Pothos and spider plants. They were pretty cheap, and I heard they’re super easy to propagate. Plus, my room doesn’t get a ton of sunlight, so their ability to handle low light was a big win.

I also did a little experiment with veggies and stuff. I planted some summer squash, lettuce, tomatoes, collard greens, beans, peas, and salad turnips. The radishes were especially fun because they sprouted up so fast! Though, I gotta say, not everyone’s a fan of their taste, haha.
Then, for a bit of color, I tried Clematis, Wisteria, and some Climbing Roses. It was a bit of a gamble, but man, when they bloomed, it was gorgeous! I even tried some Ivy for that evergreen look, but I had to keep an eye on it since it can get a bit out of control.
And the easy-peasy ones:
- Succulents: These were a no-brainer. Even for someone like me who’s not exactly a plant expert, they were super easy to take care of.
- Snake Plant: They say these plants are famous for being tough, and they weren’t kidding.
- Air Plants: These were cool because they didn’t even need soil!
It is very exciting to see my dorm room transform with these plants. It’s way more inviting now, and honestly, taking care of them hasn’t been as hard as I thought. It’s been a cool little project, and I’m pretty stoked about how it all turned out.
