Okay, so I wanted to learn “Bring Me To Life” by Evanescence on guitar. I’m no guitar god, but I can strum a few chords, and this song seemed like a good challenge. First thing I did was search for the chords.
Finding the Chords
I just googled “bring me to life chords,” plain and simple. Lots of sites popped up, but I usually go for the ones that look straightforward, you know? No crazy diagrams or anything. I just want the basic chords.

I found a site that looked pretty * had the chords laid out verse by verse, chorus by chorus. Seemed easy enough.
Practicing the Chords
The main chords I saw were like, Em, C, G, and D. Pretty standard stuff. So, I grabbed my guitar and started messing around with those. The trickiest part was switching between them smoothly. My fingers felt like clumsy sausages at first.
- Em (E minor) – No problem.
- C (C major) – Easy peasy.
- G (G major) – Got it.
- D (D major)- Standard.
I spent a good chunk of time just going back and forth, back and forth, trying to get the changes clean. My fingers started to ache a little, but I pushed through. I also tried different strumming patterns. The song’s got that driving rhythm, so I needed something that sounded, well, driving.
Putting it Together
Once I felt somewhat okay with the chords and strumming, I started trying to play along with the actual song. This is where it got real. It’s one thing to play the chords by themselves, but it’s a whole different beast to keep up with the recording.
I slowed down the song using a the function on player– it let me adjust the playback speed. That helped a lot. I could hear the chord changes more clearly and get my fingers in the right place at the right time.
It took a bunch of tries. I messed up, I stumbled, I hit the wrong strings. My cat probably got sick of hearing the same intro over and over. But, slowly, bit by bit, it started to sound like…music! Like, actual recognizable music.

The Result
Am I ready to go on tour? Definitely not. But can I play a rough version of “Bring Me To Life” that my friends might recognize? Yeah, I think so. It’s not perfect, but it’s something. And it’s proof that even a non-musician like me can learn a song with a little bit of effort(and lots of practice). It also felt great to play along that powerfull chorus.
