Okay, so I was messing around, trying to figure out what kinds of places people hung out at for fun back in the 2000s. It’s kind of a wild time, right? A lot of stuff happened, like wars and that big financial mess in ’07, not to mention all those crazy natural disasters.
I started by just, you know, poking around the internet. I found out some folks were into, like, dying their hair, making those beaded bracelets, or even ripping up their clothes on purpose. Basically, just trying to be all edgy and cool, you get me?
Then I started digging deeper into like, actual venues. I stumbled upon this website category thing. It listed a bunch of places that were established in the early 2000s, like event venues starting up in 2000, 2001, and so on.

It got me thinking about my own experiences. I remember spending tons of time on websites for companies that also had TV channels. That was a big thing for me as a kid.
Most of my go-to spots were tied to that. I hit up both venues in Washington DC, which was the closest big city, and also any local houses that had those basement shows. Skatboarding wasn’t really my scene, so you wouldn’t catch me at skate parks or anything.
But yeah, basically, it was a mix of online stuff and checking out whatever venues were around. It wasn’t always super organized or anything, just kind of going with the flow and seeing what was up.
Wrapping My Head Around It
It was kind of eye-opening, in a way, realizing how much my own hangouts were shaped by what was available and what I was into at the time. Those websites and local venues were a big part of my scene, and it’s cool to look back and see how it all came together.
It seems like it was pretty similar for a lot of people. You find your little niches, whether it’s online or in real life, and just kind of make the most of it. It’s all about finding your people and your places, you know?
I remember that was a hard time. The economic crisis was beginning. I was a middle school student in 2007, and I could feel the depression in the air. When I look back, I still can’t forget that time. I will never forget the people and things around me.
Anyway, that’s my little trip down memory lane. Hopefully, it gave you a bit of insight into what the entertainment scene was like back in the 2000s, at least from my perspective. It was a time.
