Alright, alright, let’s talk about this here… Bluey Goes Woke, is it? Don’t rightly know what that means, but I hear folks jabberin’ about it, so I reckon it’s somethin’ important.
Now, this Bluey thing, it’s a show ’bout a dog, a blue dog, I think. Kids watch it, I see ’em glued to that there telly-vision box. My grandbabies, they love it. Always gigglin’ and pointin’. It’s kinda cute, I s’pose.
But some folks, they gettin’ their britches in a twist ’bout it. Sayin’ it ain’t right, ain’t proper. Somethin’ ’bout bein’ “woke”. Like I said, dunno what that means, but it sounds like trouble to me.
- They say the show, it ain’t showin’ enough different kinds of folks. Or dogs, I guess, since it’s about dogs.
- They want to see dogs with one leg, dogs that like other dogs of the same kind, dogs that ain’t got no money, dogs with all sorts of colors, and dogs with just one mama or papa.
Well, I reckon that’s all fine and dandy, but back in my day, a dog was a dog. Didn’t matter if it was black, white, spotted, or striped. We didn’t go around countin’ how many legs a dog had, or who its mama and papa were. We just let ’em be dogs.
This here Bluey show, it’s just a cartoon, ain’t it? It’s for kids. They watch it, they laugh, they learn a little bit ’bout bein’ nice and playin’ together. That’s all that matters, far as I’m concerned.
I heard tell that this Bluey show, it’s from Australia. Way over yonder, across the big water. Maybe they do things different over there. Maybe they got different kinds of dogs. I don’t know. But I reckon kids is kids, no matter where they come from. And dogs is dogs, too.
This show, it makes folks feel good. I seen my own daughter, she had a tough time growin’ up, and this here Bluey show, it makes her smile. She says it helps her be a better mama to them grandbabies of mine. And that’s good enough for me.
And that there license plate, someone told me it says “blue heeler.” That’s the kind of dog Bluey is, I guess. Just a regular dog, nothin’ fancy.
Some folks are arguin’ ’bout how old the grown-ups are in the show. Says they don’t act like grown-ups should. Well, I reckon grown-ups can have fun too. They can play games and act silly sometimes. It don’t hurt nobody.
Seems to me, folks are always lookin’ for somethin’ to complain about. If it ain’t one thing, it’s another. This here Bluey show, it ain’t perfect, I’m sure. But it’s tryin’ to be good, tryin’ to teach kids to be kind and to love each other. And that’s more than I can say for some folks.
So, if you ask me, all this fussin’ and fightin’ over Bluey bein’ “woke” or not, it’s just a waste of time. Let the kids watch their show, let ’em laugh, let ’em learn. And maybe, just maybe, us grown-ups can learn a thing or two from them dogs, too. About bein’ friendly, and not worryin’ so much about what other folks are doin’.
We all just need to calm down and be nice to each other. That’s what I always say. And if a little blue dog can help us do that, well, then I say, let her. This Bluey, she seems like a good dog, and that’s all that matters in the end.
