Okay, so I’ve got a new kitten, and this little furball is a bundle of energy! I knew I needed to figure out ways to keep him entertained, or my house would turn into a furry tornado zone. So, I started trying out a few things.
First, I gathered some cardboard boxes. You wouldn’t believe how much kittens love boxes! I just tossed a few different sizes around the living room. He immediately started jumping in and out, hiding, and pouncing. It was like a kitty amusement park! Then I added a few throw rugs because I noticed he loves batting things around on them.
Next, I draped a blanket over a chair to make a little tent. He loved sneaking in and out of there, and I’d sometimes find him napping in his secret hideout. The laundry basket ended up being a surprise hit. I just left it out, and he figured out how to climb in and peek through the holes.
Toys, toys, toys!
- I bought a feather wand, and oh boy, does he go crazy for that thing! Chasing it around is his favorite game.
- Crinkly tunnels were another good investment. He loves the sound they make, and he’ll dart through them like a little speed demon.
- Balls with bells inside and little plush mice were also on the menu. He bats them around, carries them in his mouth, and basically treats them like his own little prey.
I also tried something called “puzzle toys.” These things are pretty cool. You hide treats inside, and he has to figure out how to get them out. It keeps him busy and seems to satisfy his little hunter instincts. Also, I tried out a bunch of different “kicker” toys. These are bigger than the mice toys, so he can really grab onto them and kick with his back feet like he’s wrestling. It’s pretty funny to watch.
The Great Food Hunt!
This one was super simple. Instead of just putting his food in the same place every time, I started hiding it in different spots around the room. It turned mealtime into a little adventure for him. He has to sniff around and find his kibble, which I think he enjoys. He loves food puzzle very much.
These little experiments have definitely helped keep my kitten entertained. He still has his crazy zoomies around the house, but at least he’s not constantly looking for trouble. Plus, it’s been fun for me to watch him play and discover new things. Kitten-proofing the house and providing enough entertainment is definitely an ongoing project, but it’s worth it to see him happy and engaged.
