Okay, so, let’s talk about lavender. I’ve always loved the smell, but I wanted to see what other scents I could mix it with to make things even more interesting. So I started this little project, and let me tell you, it’s been a lot of fun.
First, I grabbed a bunch of essential oils I already had lying around: cedarwood, frankincense, rose, you know, the usual suspects. I also picked up some citrusy ones like lemon and orange because I heard they go well with lavender. And yeah I also got some others like peppermint and patchouli, and ylang ylang.
Experiment Time
I started by mixing just a drop of lavender with each of the other oils, one by one. I wanted to see how they interacted on their own before I got too crazy with the combinations. Some of them were amazing right off the bat.
- Lavender and lemon? Super refreshing. It smelled like a summer day.
- Lavender and cedarwood? This one was woodsy and calming. I liked it a lot.
- Lavender and rose? Very floral, of course, but in a good way. It felt luxurious.
Then I started getting a bit more adventurous. I tried mixing lavender with two or three other oils at once.
- Lavender, lemon, and peppermint? This one was a winner. It smelled clean and invigorating, and it actually helped me focus when I was working.
- Lavender, cedarwood, and frankincense? Super relaxing. I used this blend in my diffuser before bed, and it really helped me unwind.
Some Lessons Learned
Not every combination was a success. Lavender and patchouli, for example, were kind of intense together. It wasn’t bad, but it was a bit too much for me. Also, I learned that a little goes a long way. You don’t need a lot of essential oil to get a strong scent. One of my friends told me that too much lavender makes people feel sleepy. I am not sure whether it is true, but I do use less lavender oil when mixing.
The End Result
After all my experimenting, I ended up with a few favorite blends that I use all the time now. I’ve got one for when I need to focus, one for when I need to relax, and even one for when I just want my house to smell nice. And you know what? I even tried putting a few drops of lavender in my bath, and guess what? It really does help you sleep better.
It’s been a fun project, and I’m definitely going to keep experimenting. If you’re into essential oils or just like trying new things, I totally recommend giving this a go. You might be surprised at what you discover!
