Okay, so it’s been freezing lately, right? Like, bone-chilling cold. I decided I needed to get serious about not turning into a human popsicle, so I did a little experiment this past week. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
Layering Up Like a Pro
First things first, I ditched the “I’m too cool for extra layers” attitude. I used to think a big, bulky coat was enough. Nope! I started with a thin, long-sleeved thermal shirt. Seriously, those things are magic.

- Day 1: Thermal shirt + regular sweater. Felt okay, but still a bit chilly.
- Day 2: Thermal shirt + fleece jacket + my usual winter coat. Much better!
- Day 3: Added a scarf and a hat that actually covers my ears. Game changer!
The key, I realized, is trapping the air between the layers. It’s like creating your own little personal climate.
Protecting the Extremities
My fingers and toes are always the first to go numb. So, I invested in some decent gloves. Not the cheap, thin ones, but some thick, insulated ones. I even found some with touch-screen compatibility, so I don’t have to freeze my fingers off to answer a text.
For my feet, I swapped my regular socks for wool socks. Wool is amazing! Even when it gets a little damp, it still keeps you warm. I also made sure my boots were waterproof. Stepping in a slush puddle with regular shoes is a recipe for disaster.
Staying Active (Even When I Don’t Want To)
It’s tempting to just curl up on the couch all day when it’s cold, but I forced myself to keep moving. Even a short walk around the block helped a lot. It gets the blood flowing and warms you up from the inside.
- Tried: Quick walk during lunch break.
- Result: Felt warmer and more energized for the rest of the day.
Warm Drinks and Foods
I’ve been all about hot drinks lately. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate – you name it. It’s like a warm hug for your insides. I also started making more soups and stews. Nothing beats a bowl of hot soup on a freezing day.
So, that’s my anti-freezing strategy so far. It’s a work in progress, but I’m definitely feeling warmer and more prepared for whatever winter throws my way. No more shivering for me!
