Okay, so I’ve been wanting to upgrade my living room setup for a while. It’s always felt a little…lacking. I had this idea to build a bridge-like structure for my entertainment center – something to connect the two sides and give it a more unified, custom look. I wasn’t even sure if it would work, but I figured, why not give it a shot?
Getting Started
First, I measured everything. Like, everything. The width of my existing entertainment center units, the height I wanted the bridge to be, the depth…you get the idea. I didn’t want to end up with something that looked totally out of proportion.

Then came the fun part – picking out the wood! I went with a simple pine because it’s affordable and easy to work with. I also grabbed some wood stain, screws, and wood glue. I wanted a slightly rustic, warm feel, so I chose a stain that wasn’t too dark.
The Build
I started by cutting the wood to the correct sizes. I have a miter saw, which made this a lot easier, but you could definitely do it with a hand saw if you’re patient. My pieces included the main horizontal support of my design, and support beams to keep my design standing.
Next, I assembled the main structure of the bridge. I used wood glue and screws to make sure it was super sturdy. Clamps are your best friend here – they hold everything in place while the glue dries.
- Cut the wood pieces according to your measurements.
- Apply wood glue to the connecting edges.
- Secure the pieces together with screws.
- Use clamps to hold everything tightly while the glue dries.
Then Sanding the bridge structure after the building, I wanted to keep things smooth, and not have my bridge be a danger!
Once the glue was dry, I stained the whole thing. I did two coats to get the color I wanted. This part took a while because I wanted to make sure I got into all the nooks and crannies.
Putting It All Together
Finally, it was time to install the bridge. This was probably the trickiest part. I carefully positioned it on top of my existing entertainment center units. I used some small L-brackets underneath to secure it in place – you can’t see them, but they make a huge difference in terms of stability.

And that’s it! I stepped back and… I loved it. It totally transformed the look of the room. It feels so much more cohesive and custom-built now. Plus, I have extra shelf space for displaying stuff.
Honestly, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. It just took some planning, patience, and a little bit of elbow grease. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I say go for it! You might surprise yourself with what you can create.
