Well, let me tell ya ’bout these rasta belts, ya know? Seen ’em ’round, all them bright colors like a rainbow gone wild. Red, yellow, green… reminds me of them peppers I grow in the garden, all mixed up and pretty.
What are these rasta belts anyway?

They’re just belts, ya know, hold your pants up. But they got them rasta colors, all special and stuff. Some folks say it’s ’bout peace and love, like them hippies back in the day. My grandson, he’s got one, wears it all the time. Says it makes him feel good, connected to somethin’ bigger.
Where do ya find these things?
Oh, everywhere now. Seen ’em at the market, them little shops downtown, even on that internet thing my niece showed me. Lots of different kinds too. Some made of cloth, like canvas, real sturdy. Others, they’re leather, fancy-like. And the prices, well, they’re all over the place. Seen some cheap ones, just a few dollars, and then there’s them real expensive ones, leather and all, cost ya a pretty penny.
- Cloth belts, canvas mostly
- Leather belts, some with studs
- Belts with big buckles
Heard tell some folks make ’em themselves, knit ’em or sew ’em. That’s real nice, puttin’ your own work into somethin’. Reminds me of my grandma, used to sew all our clothes. Times were different then, ya know?
Now, what about them prices?
Like I said, they go up and down. Seen some for just a few bucks, ten dollars maybe. Good for the young’uns, they lose things so easy. Then there’s them middle-priced ones, twenty or thirty dollars, maybe. Last a bit longer, maybe made a little better. And then, the real fancy ones, leather and all, might cost ya forty dollars or more. Those are for folks who want somethin’ special, somethin’ to last. But, I tell ya, spendin’ too much on a belt is like throwin’ money out the window. Just need somethin’ to hold your pants up, ain’t that right?

What about them buckles?
Some belts, they just got them plain buckles, nothin’ special. But others, they got them big buckles, shiny and all. Reminds me of them cowboys, always with their big belt buckles. My grandpa used to have one, won it in a rodeo. Big as my hand, it was. Now, some folks like them big buckles, some don’t. Just a matter of taste, I guess.
The thing about breakin’ up…
Heard some silly story ’bout these belts and breakin’ up. Said if you make a belt for someone before you’re married, you’ll break up. Sounds like a load of hogwash to me. If you’re gonna break up, you’re gonna break up, belt or no belt. But folks like their stories, ya know? Gives ’em somethin’ to talk about. But don’t you go believin’ everything you hear. Common sense is what you need.
And them colors, what do they mean?
Well, they say the red is for the blood, the yellow for the sun, and the green for the land. Sounds nice, don’t it? Like everything’s connected. Reminds me of the garden again, the earth, the sun, the plants growin’… it’s all part of the same thing. My old man used to say, “Respect the earth, and it will respect you.” These colors, they just a reminder of that, I reckon.

So, that’s the story on them rasta belts, as far as I know. They’re just belts, ya know? But they got them colors, and they mean somethin’ to some folks. Whether ya wear ’em for peace and love, or just to hold your pants up, that’s your business. Just don’t go spendin’ a fortune on ’em, and don’t believe everything you hear about breakin’ up.
