Well, let me tell you about this American Legion Life Member thing. Heard a lot about it down at the post office. Seems like a big deal for them army fellas.
What’s this Legion Life Member?
So, this American Legion, it’s like a club, you know? For them that’s been in the army, navy, all them. They get together, swap stories, help each other out. My grandson, he was in the army, he’s a member. Says it’s good for him.
Now, this life member thing, it’s like, you pay up once, and you’re in for good. No more paying every year. Sounds like a good deal if you’re gonna be in it for the long haul.
How Much Does it Cost, You Ask?
That’s the kicker, ain’t it? How much does it cost? Well, it ain’t the same for everyone. Depends on how old you are, I hear. And how much your local group charges every year.
- Younger fellas pay more, I reckon.
- Older guys, like me, get a discount, maybe.
They got this thing called PUFL, Paid Up For Life, that’s what they call it. You can pay it all at once, or you can pay a little bit each month for a year. That way it don’t hurt your wallet so much.
My neighbor, he’s a PUFL member, he says it’s worth it. He don’t have to worry about them sending him a bill every year. He’s set for life.
Why Become a Life Member?
Well, if you’re in the Legion, and you plan on staying in, it makes sense. You save money in the long run. And like I said, no more bills every year. That’s one less thing to worry about.
Plus, these Legion folks, they do good things. They help out veterans, they help out the community. My grandson says they helped him get his benefits sorted out when he got back. So it’s a good cause, you know?
The Legion, It’s Been Around Awhile
Yeah, this American Legion, it ain’t new. Been around since, shoot, 1919, I think. That’s a long time. They’ve lost a lot of members over the years, though. People gettin’ older, you know how it is. But they’re still going strong, helping out folks.
Getting’ That Life Membership
So, if you’re thinkin’ about this American Legion lifetime membership, you can sign up online, I hear. Or you can get a paper and send it in with your money. They make it easy, I guess. My neighbor did it the old way, with the paper. My grandson probably did it online, he’s all about that computer stuff.
But once you’re a Paid Up For Life member, you’re good. You get a card, I think. And you don’t have to worry about no dues increases or nothin’. Your local post, the state, the national, they can raise it all they want, but you are protected.
More About that PUFL thing
This Paid Up For Life, it’s a good deal, I’m tellin’ ya. You pay once, and you’re done. Or you pay a little each month. It is up to you. Either way, you save money compared to paying every year.
It is a life-time thing. No more paying. You will save money. My neighbor, he’s happy with it. He ain’t had to pay nothin’ in years.
More About That Cost
I heard that if your local place charges more than $48.01 a year, then it is good for sure. The more it is per year, the more you save as a life member.
It depends on your age, too. The older you are, the less you pay. It’s only fair, I guess. You ain’t gonna be around as long, you know.
But if you are young, and you pay one time. Then you really are set. You won’t have to pay nothing ever again.
Is it Worth It?
Well, that’s up to you, ain’t it? If you’re gonna be in the Legion for a long time, then yeah, it probably is. You save money, you don’t have to worry about them yearly dues.
And you’re supporting a good cause. These Legion folks, they do good work. They help out veterans, they help out the community. It’s a good thing to be a part of.
So, if you’re thinking about it, I’d say go for it. Become a life member. Save yourself some money and some hassle. And support a good cause while you’re at it.
My neighbor, the PUFL member he never said one bad word about it. He said it was good. I trust him, he is a good man, that one.
I think my grandson will become a life member one day. When he is ready, I am sure he will. He likes that Legion.
