Well, lemme tell ya, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that Old Fashioned drink the other day. Sounded fancy, but I ain’t never had one myself. They was sayin’ somethin’ about puttin’ Triple Sec in it. Now, I ain’t no expert on these fancy drinks, but I got to thinkin’, can ya really do that? Can you use Triple Sec in an Old Fashioned?
This Triple Sec, it’s some kind of sweet stuff, right? Like that orange stuff you put in them fruity drinks. I seen it at the store, comes in a fancy bottle. And this Old Fashioned, I think it’s got that whiskey in it. My neighbor, he drinks whiskey all the time. Says it warms him up. So, can you put that sweet orange Triple Sec in with the whiskey?
I heard someone say somethin’ ’bout Triple Sec bein’ like that simple syrup. Now that simple syrup, that’s just sugar and water, right? My grandkids put that in their lemonade. But this Triple Sec, it ain’t just sugar and water. It’s got that orange taste. So, it ain’t the same, no sir.
This Old Fashioned, they say it’s a classic. Been around for a long time, I reckon. Like them old-timey songs they play on the radio sometimes. My old papa used to drink whiskey, but I don’t think he put no Triple Sec in it. He just drank it straight, I think.
So, I’m thinkin’, if you put that Triple Sec in the Old Fashioned, it ain’t gonna be the same, is it? It’s gonna be different. Maybe it’ll be sweeter, with that orange taste. Maybe some folks like it that way. I don’t know.
Here’s what I think about puttin’ Triple Sec in an Old Fashioned:
- It ain’t gonna be the same old drink. It is a new drink.
- It’ll probably be sweeter, ’cause of that orange Triple Sec.
- Some folks might like it, some might not.
- Maybe it is good with that Canadian whiskey, you know?
I reckon if you like that orange taste, you could try puttin’ Triple Sec in your Old Fashioned. But it won’t be the same as the one my papa used to drink. Or that neighbor of mine, too. But is the Old Fashioned my papa used to drink really the original Old Fashioned?
They say this Triple Sec comes from France. That’s a long way from here. We don’t have no Triple Sec growin’ on trees around here. Just got them regular oranges, and they ain’t the same thing.
And what is that, Margarita? I heard that Margarita has that Triple Sec in it. Is that true? Oh, I don’t know about that.
One thing I do know is that folks like to try new things. Maybe puttin’ Triple Sec in an Old Fashioned is just a new way to drink an old drink. Like puttin’ a new dress on an old doll. Still a doll, just got a different dress on.
I guess the only way to know for sure is to try it yourself. If you like it, good for you. If you don’t, well, there’s always plain old whiskey. Or maybe that lemonade with the simple syrup. That’s always good on a hot day.
But this Old Fashioned with Triple Sec. And they said put the lemon juice in it, too. That’s a lot of stuff for one drink, ain’t it? And what are bitters? I don’t know what is bitters. Just whiskey and sugar is good enough for me. That is an Old Fashioned for me.
If you ask me, if you put Triple Sec in an Old Fashioned it is not an Old Fashioned anymore. I think you are making another drink. If you like it, you like it. But that ain’t no Old Fashioned to me.
Well, I reckon that’s all I got to say about that. Just some thoughts from an old gal who don’t know much about fancy drinks. But I know what I like, and I like things simple. Like my old papa’s whiskey. Maybe with a little sugar sometimes, but that’s it.
Just remember this. It is okay to try new things. So if you want to put that Triple Sec in your drink. Just do it. It is your drink.
