Alright, let’s yak about this “Subdued fast fashion” thing. I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I can tell ya what I see.
What is this Subdued thing anyway?
Sounds like one of them newfangled clothes stores, ya know? Like them ones the young’uns are always goin’ crazy over. This one, they call it “Subdued,” and they say it’s from Italy. Heard they just opened up a store in Shanghai too. Big city, that Shanghai. Fancy folks over there, I reckon.
- They say it’s for young gals, the kind that are all spunky and independent.
- They make clothes real quick, like, to keep up with what’s “in” right now. You know, the stuff them magazines show.
Is it fast, like, real fast?
Yep, sounds like it. Fast fashion, they call it. Means they make a whole heap of clothes, real quick, so they can sell ’em cheap and get ’em out there fast. Like, before them young’uns change their minds about what they wanna wear. Heard some doctor, Dr. Arya I think her name was, sayin’ it’s all ’bout makin’ clothes in big bunches and gettin’ ’em out there fast, soon as everyone starts wantin’ somethin’ new.
But this “Subdued” thing, they say it’s a bit different. They say it’s “subdued” fast fashion. Now, what in tarnation does that mean? Sounds like they’re tryin’ to be fancy, but still sell clothes fast.
Is it good stuff, or just junk?
Well, folks seem to like it. Heard some gal sayin’ the clothes are real pretty and they got to her quick. Said she’d buy from ’em again. So, maybe it ain’t all bad. They say they put a lot of thought into the stuff they use to make the clothes, and how they make ’em, and what they look like. Sounds like they’re tryin’ to do things a bit better than them other fast fashion places, maybe.
But what about all that waste?
That’s what I’m sayin’! This here “fast fashion,” it makes a whole lotta clothes. And what happens when folks don’t want ’em no more? They just throw ’em away! Heard them big shots over in Europe are gettin’ all riled up about it. They’re sayin’ it’s bad for the world, all that stuff pilin’ up. Talkin’ ‘bout bannin’ it even. And you know what? They might just be right. We ain’t got no room to be throwin’ away good stuff like that. Back in my day, we mended clothes, we didn’t just toss ‘em out.
So, is Subdued different or just the same old story?
They say they’re different, that they’re more “sustainable.” That means they try not to be so wasteful, I guess. They say they use good stuff to make their clothes, and they try to do it in a way that ain’t so bad for the world. But, I don’t know. It’s still fast fashion, ain’t it? They’re still makin’ a whole heap of clothes and sellin’ ‘em cheap. Makes ya wonder if it’s really all that different.
What’s the deal with teenagers liking it?
Well, them youngsters, they like to look good, don’t they? And they like to change their look all the time. This “Subdued” place, they make clothes just for them, the kind that are trendy and fun. They keep up with what’s “in” and they make it cheap, so them young’uns can buy a whole bunch of stuff without breakin’ the bank. And they get new things on *, sounds easy enough for them youngsters, always fiddling with their phones. But sometimes I worry they’re just buyin’ things they don’t really need, just because they can.
Should we be worried?
Maybe a little. I mean, it’s good that they’re tryin’ to be a bit better, this “Subdued” place. But all that fast fashion, it just makes you think. Is it worth it, all this stuff we’re buyin’ and throwin’ away? Heard there’s so many clothes getting thrown away over in America alone. Makes me think maybe we all need to slow down a bit. Buy less, wear it longer. That’s what we used to do. Maybe them young’uns could learn a thing or two from us old folks, eh? But like I said, I ain’t no expert. Just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. You gotta make up your own mind about this Subdued fast fashion thing.
And that’s all I gotta say ’bout that. Now, where’d I put my tea?
