Okay, so, today I wanted to mess around with this thing called “reese cast stone.” First off, let me just say, this stuff is not your typical rock that you’d find lying around outside. Nah, it’s man-made, kind of like a knock-off stone, if you will.
So, I got my hands on some of this cast stone, and I gotta say, it looks pretty darn close to the real deal. It’s basically concrete that’s been dolled up to look like natural stone. They mix it up, pour it into molds, and let it harden. The cool part is they can make it look like all sorts of different stones – limestone, granite, you name it.
Now, I’ve used real stone in projects before, and it’s a pain to work with. It’s heavy, it’s hard to cut, and it can be pretty pricey. But this cast stone, it’s a whole different ball game.
- First, I started cutting some cast stone pieces, it’s way lighter, so it’s easier to handle.
- Second, I used some tools to shape the cast stone, it’s also a breeze to cut and shape.
- Third, I tried to install the cast stone as a fireplace, and I found it is much cheaper than the real stuff, which is a big plus if you’re on a budget.
My Experience
I decided to use this cast stone to build a little wall in my backyard. I measured out the area, prepped the ground, and started laying the “stones.” It was surprisingly easy. I didn’t need any fancy tools or anything, just your basic trowel and some mortar. It went up pretty quick, and I was pretty stoked with how it turned out.
Now, I’m not saying cast stone is better than natural stone. Real stone has its own charm and character, for sure. But, if you’re looking for something that’s easier to work with, more affordable, and still looks pretty darn good, then cast stone is definitely worth considering. Plus, since it’s not porous like some natural stones, it’s less likely to stain, which is a bonus.
I’ve used it for a few other things too, like making some steps and even a little bench. It’s pretty versatile stuff. And the best part is, you can customize it however you want. They’ve got all sorts of colors and patterns, so you can really get creative with it.
