Alright, so the other day, I got this idea stuck in my head. I wanted to make a “tree of life” medallion. You know, one of those cool-looking pendants with a tree design? I’ve seen them around, and they always looked pretty neat. It got me thinking about how I could make my own.
First, I needed a plan. I started by sketching out what I wanted the medallion to look like. I wanted it to be a simple circle with a tree inside, branches reaching up and roots digging down. I found some pictures online for inspiration, but I didn’t want to copy anyone else’s design. I mean, where is the fun in that, right? After a few rough sketches, I finally settled on a design I liked.

Next up was figuring out how to actually make the thing. I’m not really a jewelry expert, so I did a bit of research. I decided to use polymer clay because it’s easy to work with and you can bake it in a regular oven. I picked up some clay in different colors – brown for the tree trunk, green for the leaves, and a nice metallic color for the background.
I started by rolling out the background clay into a thin circle. Then, I got to work on the tree. This was the tricky part. I used tiny pieces of brown clay to form the trunk and branches, carefully shaping them with my fingers and some tools. I even added a bit of texture to make it look like bark. It took some time, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out. I mean, it’s not perfect, but it’s got character, you know?
For the leaves, I used even smaller pieces of green clay, shaping them into little leaf shapes and attaching them to the branches. It was a bit tedious, but kind of relaxing, too. Once the tree was done, I carefully placed it on the background circle and pressed it down gently.
Now it was time to bake it. I followed the instructions on the clay package, which was pretty straightforward. It took about 30 minutes. While it was baking, I found a simple jump ring to turn the clay piece into a pendant. Once it was cooled down, I attached the jump ring. And just like that, I had my very own tree of life medallion!
- Patience is key when working with tiny pieces of clay.
- Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and tools.
- Making something with your own hands is super rewarding.
Things I learned:
I’m pretty stoked about how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it from scratch. I’ve been wearing it around, and people have actually asked me where I got it. It’s a cool feeling to say, “I made it myself!” I might even try making more of these, maybe with different designs or colors. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a little side hustle selling them! Anyway, that’s my little adventure in making a tree of life medallion. It was a fun project, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re into that sort of thing.
