Okay, so I’ve always struggled to find swimsuits that actually fit. You see, I’ve got this long torso and, well, let’s just say my legs aren’t exactly supermodel length. Most one-pieces end up being too short in the body, giving me major wedgie issues, and two-pieces? Forget about it – the bottoms always hit at the weirdest spot, making my legs look even shorter.
So, I started my mission. My goal was simple enough: I needed find a bathing suit that made me feel good, didn’t ride up, and maybe even flattered my body shape a little.

First, I went into full-on research mode. I started browsing online, reading articles, blog posts, anything I could find with suggestions. I made myself a list and got the gist of the solution. I started trying to get the main features:
- High-cut legs:I quickly learned that this was key. Apparently, a higher cut on the leg openings creates the illusion of longer legs. Who knew?
- Adjustable straps: A must-have for a long torso. This way, I could customize the fit and avoid that dreaded too-tight feeling.
- Ruched details or patterns:Someone online mentioned that ruching or cleverly placed patterns could help balance out proportions. Seemed worth a shot!
Armed with my newfound knowledge, I started shopping. I started with online stores. Let me tell you, trying on swimsuits at home is way better than dealing with those awful dressing room lights. I ordered a bunch of different styles – high-cut one-pieces, tankinis with adjustable straps, even a few bikinis with high-waisted bottoms.
The try-on session was…interesting. Some were instant “no”s. Like, the one-piece that practically cut me in half. Ouch. Others were promising, but not quite right. The straps were too flimsy, the color was all wrong, or the fit was just a little off.
I kept at it. I started being more selective about the brands and styles I was ordering, and I kept a few key lessons learned:
- Read these size charts! and customer reviews.
- Don’t be afraid to try something new style.
Finally after all the trials, I found it! It was a tankini with super-adjustable straps and a high-cut leg. The top had some ruching around the middle, which actually did make my torso look a little more balanced. And the color was this gorgeous deep teal that looked amazing with my skin tone.
The first time I wore it to the pool, I felt…amazing. I wasn’t constantly tugging at my suit or feeling self-conscious. I could actually just relax and enjoy the water. It was such a small thing, but finding a swimsuit that actually fit made a huge difference in my confidence.

So, I totally get the struggle. It’s not always easy, but with a little trial and error, you can find a bathing suit that works for your body, no matter your shape or size.
