Well, you know, if ya ask me, there ain’t nothin’ better than takin’ a dip in a nice swimmin’ hole when the summer heat’s comin’ down real strong. Folks around here, they look for them hidden spots where the water’s cool and the rocks feel smooth under your feet. New York City, you wouldn’t think it, but there’s a good few places not too far from there where you can jump in and get a good swim. I’m tellin’ ya, it’s like a little slice of heaven right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
Now, I’ve heard folks talkin’ ’bout a place called Peekamoose Blue Hole up in the Catskills. They say it’s one of the most famous swimmin’ holes in New York. You gotta go up the mountain a little ways, but once you get there, it’s like a piece of paradise. The water’s all clear and blue, and you can jump right in and cool off. Ain’t nothin’ like sittin’ on the rocks by the water, watchin’ the world go by.
And let me tell ya, there’s Enders Falls in Granby too. This one’s got a real charm to it. Big ol’ waterfall with water splashing all around, and the pool at the bottom is just perfect for floatin’ on a hot day. Folks say the water feels real fresh, like it’s straight outta the mountain. I reckon if ya want to get away from the city and feel somethin’ peaceful, this is the spot for ya.
There’s another one called Devil’s Bathtub. It’s a little hard to get to, I’ll tell ya that. Some folks say ya gotta hike through the woods, but it’s worth it. The water’s deep and clear, and they say it’s got a real mystical feel to it, like you’re swimmin’ in a secret place just for you. You’ll have to work for it, but boy, it sure is a treat once you’re there.
If you’re lookin’ for somethin’ closer to the city, there’s still a few good spots. Buttermilk Falls is one of ‘em. It’s not far from the city, and it’s real easy to get to. The water’s nice, and it’s perfect for just hangin’ out and takin’ a lazy swim. People love to bring their kids there too, ’cause there’s a nice little spot where they can paddle around. You won’t have to travel far, but it sure feels like you’ve gone away to some faraway place.
Now, don’t forget about Falling Waters in the Adirondacks. It’s a bit of a drive, but if you’re in the mood for a real adventure, this one’s the ticket. There’s a big ol’ waterfall, and you can swim right at the bottom where the water collects. It’s a peaceful place, good for folks lookin’ to get away from the noise of the city for a while.
And we can’t forget about Stony Brook, can we? It’s right in the middle of the Catskills, and it’s got clear, chilly water. Folks come from all over to swim there, and it’s easy to see why. The spot is real quiet, and the sound of the water rushin’ over the rocks is somethin’ you’ll never forget.
If you’re hopin’ for somethin’ real special, there’s Blue Hole in Woodstock. They say the water’s like a blue jewel, so clear and calm. It’s small, but it’s peaceful, and you can just float there and relax for hours. Lots of folks come here to escape the summer heat, and I reckon it’s one of the prettiest spots around.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ that you can just go anywhere and dive in like it’s the ol’ country pond. Some of these places, you gotta watch out for the rules. Some spots need ya to hike a little, or maybe even pay a little fee to get in. And don’t go just any ol’ time; a lot of them are best visited in the summertime, when the water’s warm enough to take a good dip. But trust me, all of ‘em are worth the trip, especially if you’re lookin’ to cool off and relax.
So, what I’m tryin’ to say is, don’t let that city heat get ya down. Pack up your swimsuit, slather on the sunscreen, and head on out to one of these swimmin’ holes. They’re not that far from New York City, and once you’re there, you’ll feel like you’ve found your own little piece of heaven. You’ll be swimmin’ in fresh, cool water, listenin’ to the birds, and forgettin’ all about the heat and the hustle of the big city. It’s the perfect way to spend a summer day. Go on, take the plunge!
