Alright, listen up, y’all. You’re talkin’ ’bout takin’ a trip after that there bar exam, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, Europe’s a big place, lots of things to see and do. You young folks, all smart and educated, need a break, I get it. But don’t go wastin’ your money on silly things. You gotta plan it out right, see?
First off, you gotta figure out what kinda trip you want. You wanna just lay on a beach somewhere and drink them fancy cocktails? Or you wanna see some old stuff, like them castles and churches they got over there? Maybe you wanna do a bit of both, huh? That’s the ticket! Seein’ stuff and havin’ some fun too, that’s the way to go.
Now, some folks like them big cities. London, Paris, Rome… They’re full of people, always somethin’ goin’ on. But let me tell ya, those places can be expensive. And crowded! You’ll be bumpin’ into folks left and right, and you might not even see what you came to see. If you are gonna do the big city thing, you better look up some good places to grab some eats before you go. Nothin’ worse than wanderin’ around hungry and just endin’ up in some tourist trap where the food’s no good and costs a fortune. Find some real places with real food, y’know?
- London, England: Big city, lots to see, but Lordy, it’s expensive! You can see the Buckingham Palace, that’s where the Queen lives, or used to live, I think. They got museums, too, full of old stuff.
- Paris, France: They got that big tower, the Eiffel Tower, I think it’s called. Folks say it’s romantic, but to me, it just looks like a big ol’ pile of metal. But hey, what do I know? They also got good food, or so I hear. Bread and cheese and such.
- Rome, Italy: Now, this place is old. Real old. They got ruins and churches and all sorts of things. The Colosseum, that’s where they used to fight, gladiators and such. Sounds bloody to me, but folks seem to like it. You might too.
But if you ask me, the best places are the little towns. The ones nobody’s ever heard of. That’s where you find the real Europe. You can wander around, talk to the locals, eat some good food. And it won’t cost you an arm and a leg neither. Go off the beaten path, like them young folks say.
Think about goin’ somewhere in August, that’s what you said, right? Well, August is hot in Europe. So maybe you wanna go somewhere near the water. The Mediterranean, that’s a big sea, lots of beaches. Or maybe the Greek Islands, those are supposed to be pretty. Pictures I’ve seen are mighty nice. Clear water, blue skies… sounds nice, don’t it? Just make sure you got your sunscreen, you don’t wanna get all burnt up like a lobster.
And speaking of beaches, you might want to check out the Algarve in Portugal or the Costa Brava in Spain. Beaches and little towns. You can get some sun, swim in the water and then wander around the town in the evening. Get you some of that good seafood they got over there. And don’t forget a good pair of walkin’ shoes. Those cobblestone streets can be murder on the feet if you are not used to ‘em.
Now, you young folks, you like your nightlife, don’t ya? After all that studyin’, you deserve a little fun. Europe’s got plenty of bars and clubs, if that’s your thing. But be careful, okay? Don’t go drinkin’ too much and gettin’ into trouble. You gotta keep your wits about ya, especially in a foreign country. And make sure you got a way to get back to your hotel, don’t go wanderin’ around lost in the middle of the night.
And another thing, don’t forget to try the local drinks! Every place has got somethin’ special. Like in Ireland, they got that Guinness beer, black as night it is. Or in Germany, they got all kinds of beer. And in France, they got wine, of course. But don’t go drinkin’ too much of that fancy stuff, stick to what you know. Or at least, don’t go mixin’ a whole bunch of different kinds of booze. You’ll wake up with a head that feels like it’s gonna split open, and that ain’t no fun.
But whatever you do, make sure you have a good time. You worked hard for this trip, so go enjoy it. See some sights, meet some people, eat some good food. And don’t forget to take lots of pictures! So you can remember it all when you’re old and gray like me. Just don’t go gettin’ yourself into any trouble, ya hear? And for goodness sake, call your mother once in a while!
One last thing, make sure you got all your papers in order. Passport, visa, all that stuff. You don’t want to get stuck at the airport, now do ya? And it wouldn’t hurt to learn a few phrases in the local language. Just the basics, you know, “hello,” “goodbye,” “thank you,” “where’s the bathroom?” It’ll go a long way, trust me.
