Alright, let’s talk about this Benefit makeup stuff, you know, the one with all the fancy pretty colors. Folks been askin’ if they’re nice to the little critters, the animals, you know? Like, do they poke and prod ‘em to make their lipsticks and whatnot. So, is Benefit Cosmetics cruelty-free? That’s what we’re here to figure out, ain’t it?
Well, it ain’t as simple as yes or no, see? It’s kinda like tryin’ to figure out if your grandson’s been eatin’ cookies before dinner. He says no, but you see the crumbs, right? Benefit, they say they don’t test on animals themselves, which is good, I guess. They say they ain’t doin’ the pokin’ and proddin’ themselves to make their pretty stuff. But, and there’s always a but ain’t there, things get a bit muddy after that.
Here’s the thing, they sell their stuff over in China, that big country across the ocean. And China, well, they got some rules. They say, “If you wanna sell your makeup here, you gotta test it on animals.” It’s like, if you wanna sell your apples at the market, you gotta follow the market rules, right? So Benefit, they gotta play by China’s rules if they wanna sell there. So, even if Benefit ain’t doin’ the testin’ themselves, somebody’s doin’ it for ‘em over there. That don’t sit right with me, you know?

- But they sell in China, where testin’ is a must.
- So, somebody’s testin’, even if it ain’t them directly.
It’s like sayin’ you ain’t gonna eat no cake, but then you let your friend eat it for you and you take a bite. You still got cake in your belly, right? Same thing here. They ain’t directly testin’, but animals are still gettin’ tested on because of their stuff. Makes you think, don’t it?
Now, some folks say, “Oh, but some of their stuff don’t have no animal parts in it.” That’s what they call “vegan,” I think. But that ain’t the same as cruelty-free, see? You can have a cake without no eggs, but if you smack someone to get the flour, it ain’t nice, is it? Same with makeup. Just cause it ain’t got animal stuff in it don’t mean they ain’t hurtin’ animals to test it.
I heard tell of some other stuff called Benefect MPC. They say that one don’t need no warnings about hurtin’ animals or nothin’. But that’s different, see? That ain’t the same as all that blush and lipstick and eye shadow stuff. It’s like apples and oranges, both fruits, but not the same. We’re talkin’ about the pretty makeup, not some cleaning stuff. So don’t get that mixed up, now.
So, what’s the bottom line? Well, if you ask me, and nobody really is, but I’m tellin’ ya anyway, Benefit ain’t really cruelty-free. They might not be doin’ the dirty work themselves, but they’re part of it, you know? They’re lettin’ it happen so they can sell their stuff in China. And that, to me, ain’t right. It’s like bein’ a lookout for someone robbin’ a bank. You ain’t stealin’ the money yourself, but you’re helpin’ it happen.
If you care about the animals, and I sure do, I raised enough chickens and cows in my time to know they’re God’s creatures too, you gotta think twice about buyin’ from companies that ain’t clear about this stuff. There’s plenty of other makeup out there, maybe some that’s really truly kind to the animals. You gotta do your research, just like you check the tomatoes at the market to make sure they ain’t rotten. Don’t just believe what them fancy ads tell ya, they just want your money, they don’t care about no bunnies or piggies.
So, there you have it. My two cents on this Benefit business. It ain’t a simple yes or no, but to me, it’s a no. They ain’t cruelty-free if animals are gettin’ hurt for their stuff, no matter who’s doin’ the hurtin’. You make up your own mind, but that’s what I think. And I been around long enough to know a thing or two about what’s right and what ain’t.
