I was really sweating bullets the other day. It was hotter than blue blazes, so I thought it would be the perfect time to find a waterfall where I could take a dip and cool off. I remembered someone telling me that swimming in waterfall pools is super refreshing.
First, I fired up my computer and did a quick search for “waterfalls that you can swim in near me.” I scrolled through a bunch of results, and a few places caught my eye. There was one called Wonang Falls, which apparently has a really nice blue pool. Sounded pretty good to me! Another one was Towangseong Waterfall in South Korea – it looked huge, with a 150-meter drop at the top. A bit far for a quick swim, but I added it to my bucket list!
I kept looking and found a few other places that sounded cool. There was this place called Llanos de Corts in Costa Rica, and another one called Lower McCloud Falls in California. Both seemed to be popular swimming spots. Then I stumbled upon Gulf Hagas in Maine, which has a bunch of waterfalls and swimming holes. It looked a bit more adventurous, which I liked.
After browsing for a while, I also found Little River Falls in Alabama, located in the Little River Canyon National. It seemed like a decent option, and not too far away.
- Wonang Falls – colorful blue plunge pool, looked pretty popular.
- Towangseong Waterfall – massive waterfall in South Korea, definitely a must-visit someday.
- Llanos de Corts (Costa Rica) – sounded like a good swimming spot.
- Lower McCloud Falls (California) – another popular choice for a swim.
- Gulf Hagas (Maine) – multiple waterfalls and swimming holes, looked more adventurous.
- Little River Falls (Alabama) – seemed like a decent option, and not too far.
I decided to go to Little River Falls, I figured that if it is a national scenic area, it had to be good, right?
So, I packed a towel, some sunscreen, and a water bottle, and hit the road. The drive was not too bad, and the scenery along the way was actually pretty nice.
When I got there, I parked the car and followed the trail to the falls. It was an easy walk, and I could hear the roar of the water as I got closer. And let me tell you, the sight of the falls was amazing! The water was crystal clear, and there were a few people already swimming in the pool below.
I found a good spot to put my stuff, stripped down to my swimsuit, and jumped in. The water was so cold at first, but oh man, it felt amazing! I swam around for a while, dove under the falls a few times, and just enjoyed the coolness of the water. It was exactly what I needed on that hot day. But boy, was I wrong about how refreshing it was, it was more freezing than refreshing!
After a while, I got out of the water and laid on a big rock to dry off in the sun. I just relaxed there for a while, listening to the sound of the water and watching people come and go. The sun felt amazing on my skin and I felt completely refreshed. It was definitely worth the trip!
Getting to swim in a waterfall was a great experience, and it’s something I’ll definitely do again. It was a fun little adventure, and a perfect way to beat the heat. And you know what? I also discovered that sunbathing on the rocks was just as awesome! It was like a natural spa day. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend finding a waterfall you can swim in. Just make sure to be safe and check the water conditions before you jump in. And don’t forget your sunscreen!
Tip of the Day
When you’re planning your waterfall adventure, look for spots with “broad granite ledges for sunbathing and toe dipping.” Those were the best for relaxing after a swim!
