Well, let me tell ya ’bout winter trips in California, child. It ain’t all sunshine and beaches, you know. There’s mountains and snow too, if you can believe it.
Big Bear Lake, that’s a place to go. I hear tell they got them snowshoe tours. Sounds fancy, but I reckon it’s just walkin’ in the snow with big ol’ shoes. You gotta book ahead though, or you’ll be stuck with a whole bunch of other folks, and nobody wants that. They say it’s the great outdoors, and I guess it is, if you like that kinda thing. Cold, if you ask me, but some folks like freezin’ their butts off, I guess.
- Book in advance.
- Avoid the crowds.
- Stay safe. Don’t want you gettin’ lost in the snow, now.
Then there’s them redwood forests. Big ol’ trees, taller than anything you ever seen. They say you can “weave” through ’em. Sounds like somethin’ you do with yarn, but I guess it just means walkin’ around. It’s pretty, I guess, if you like lookin’ at trees. Kinda dark and damp, though. Gives me the shivers just thinkin’ about it.
Now, if you wanna see some water, there’s Lake Tahoe. Folks say it’s real pretty, one of their favorite places. I ain’t never been, but I seen pictures. Big ol’ lake, mountains all around. Probably cold as heck in the winter, but folks seem to like it. You can take tours, see the sights. They got all kinds of fancy words for it, “amazing views”, “unique destinations”. Sounds expensive, if you ask me. You probably need to “reserve your spot”, whatever that means. Just show up, that’s what I say.
And speakin’ of expensive, you gotta get there somehow, right? Planes, hotels, cars… it all costs money. I heard tell of this “Priceline” place, says they can save you some money. I don’t know nothin’ ’bout it, but folks seem to like it. Maybe you can get a good deal, maybe you can’t. It’s all a gamble, if you ask me.
If you want somethin’ warmer, they say there’s places down south, Los Angeles and Palm Springs way. Warm all year round, they say. “Sunshine attractin’ snowbirds”. Sounds like somethin’ you’d put in a pie, but I guess it just means old folks goin’ south for the winter. They got hotels and attractions, warm weather. Sounds nice, but I bet it’s crowded. And expensive, too. Everything’s expensive these days.
You can go on tours too, they say they’re “5-star rated”. I don’t know what that means, stars are up in the sky, not on some tour, but I guess it means they’re good. They got “day trips”, “tickets”, “exclusive access”, all sorts of things. And they got pictures and videos, so you can see what you’re gettin’ into. And maps, too, so you don’t get lost. But you gotta “reserve now”, they say. Always gotta book ahead, seems like.
So, there you have it. Winter trips in California. Mountains, snow, trees, lakes, warm weather, tours, expensive stuff… Take your pick. Me? I’d just stay home, drink some hot cocoa, and watch the TV. But that’s just me. You young folks, you like to go places and see things. Just be careful, and don’t spend too much money. And don’t forget to call your grandma, you hear?
Just remember, book ahead, stay safe, and have fun. And don’t forget your coat, it gets cold out there, even in California.
Oh, and one more thing. If you go to them redwood forests, watch out for bears. Big ol’ critters, they are. And don’t feed ’em, no matter how cute they look. They’ll eat you out of house and home, if you let ’em.
