Alright, so, I had to figure out this whole breast milk thing on a trip recently, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a scramble at first. But, I got it down, and now I’m gonna share what I learned so other moms don’t have to stress like I did.
Get the Gear Ready
First things first, I needed a game plan. I wasn’t traveling with my little one this time, but I still wanted to keep up with my breastfeeding routine. So, I packed a solid cooler. Not just any cooler, but one that’s known for keeping things ice-cold. And, of course, I grabbed a bunch of those gel ice packs. You know, the ones you freeze ahead of time?
Packing It Up
I made sure all my breast milk was already frozen solid. I mean, we’re talking rock hard. Then, I started layering. I put a layer of frozen gel packs at the bottom of the cooler, then a layer of breast milk bags, and kept alternating until everything was snugly packed in there. I stuffed some extra ice in any gaps to make sure things stayed really cold.
Hitting the Road
With my cooler packed, I was off. Whether it’s a road trip or flying, I kept that cooler with me. I didn’t want to risk it getting lost or anything in checked baggage. It was a bit of a hassle carrying it around, but honestly, the peace of mind was worth it.
Checking In
- Once I got to where I was going, the first thing I did was check the milk.
- I was looking for ice crystals. If there were still ice crystals in the milk, I knew it was still good to use or refreeze.
- And yup, every bag still had some ice crystals, so I knew I did it right.
Keeping It Cool
Throughout my trip, I made sure to keep those ice packs frozen. I’d swap them out in the hotel freezer, always making sure there were enough in the cooler to keep the milk at a safe temperature. It’s all about that rotation, you know?
So yeah, that’s how I managed to keep my breast milk cold while traveling. It takes a bit of prep work and some attention to detail, but it’s totally doable. I hope this helps other moms out there who are trying to figure out this whole travel and breastfeeding thing. It’s all about making our lives a bit easier, right?
