Okay, so I’ve been itching to get out of the house, you know? Winter in New England can be beautiful, but also, cabin fever is REAL. So, I decided to plan a few day trips. Here’s how I went about it and what I did.
Brainstorming Destinations
First, I pulled out my trusty old map – yeah, I’m a bit old school like that. I also jumped online and started browsing some local tourism websites. I was looking for places within, say, a 2-3 hour driving radius. I figured that was far enough to feel like a real getaway, but not so far that I’d spend the whole day in the car.

I jotted down a bunch of ideas:
- Coastal towns – always a good option, even in winter.
- Small, historic villages – charming and usually less crowded.
- Maybe a state park for some winter hiking? If the weather cooperated.
- Museums! If I could find some cool ones
Narrowing it Down
Next, I checked the weather forecast for the next few weekends. That helped me eliminate a few options right away. No way was I going to a beach town if it was going to be freezing rain!
I also thought about what I was in the mood for. Did I want something active? Relaxing? Educational? That helped me narrow down the list even further.
The Chosen Trips
Here’s what I ended up doing:
- Trip 1: A historic seaport town! I wandered around the old streets, checked out some cute shops, and grabbed some delicious seafood for lunch. It was chilly, but the sun was shining, and the sea air felt amazing.
- Trip 2: A small village known for its antique stores. I spent the day browsing through all sorts of treasures, and even found a cool vintage print for my living room. I ended the day with a warm cup of coffee at a cozy little cafe.
- Trip 3:A winter hike. It was a short and easy hike. I wore warm clothes and good boots.I took a lot of pictures because The scenery covered with snow was really beautiful.I made hot chocolate with the thermos I brought, which tasted especially delicious in the cold outdoors.
Making it Happen
For each trip, I packed a small backpack with essentials: water, snacks, a map (just in case my phone died), and an extra layer of clothing. I also made sure to fill up my gas tank the day before, so I wouldn’t have to worry about that in the morning.
The best part? Getting out and exploring! Even though they were just day trips, it felt so good to break out of my routine and see something new. I came back from each trip feeling refreshed and ready to tackle another week. Winter in New England might be long, but it definitely doesn’t have to be boring!
