It’s colder than a well digger’s backside out there these days! Brrr! Makes a body wanna just stay inside and keep warm. But staying inside all the time? Shoot, you’ll go stir crazy! So what’s a body to do when it’s cold outside? I got some ideas, simple things, nothin’ fancy.
Stayin’ In, But Not Bored Silly
First thing, you can get some things done around the house. Ain’t no time like the present, right?
- Clean out them closets. Lord knows they need it.
- Fix that leaky faucet. Been meaning to do that for ages, anyway.
- Mend them socks with the holes. Gotta keep them toes warm!
Now, if you ain’t in the mood for chores, that’s alright too. You can find yourself some fun inside too.
Watch a movie. Any old movie will do. I like them old ones, they tell a good story. Pop some popcorn, if you got any, and settle in. Nothing better on a cold day.
You got one of them jigsaw puzzles? Them things can keep you busy for hours! Just gotta have a good table to put it on, somewhere you can leave it be until it’s done. It’s a good way to pass the time and it’s kinda fun seeing the picture come together, piece by piece.
Read a book. Remember them things? They still make ’em! A good book can take you away to another place, someplace warm, maybe.
Helping Others Out
Now, if you’re thinkin’ of others, that’s mighty fine too. There are folks out there who ain’t got it as good as us, especially when it’s cold outside.
If you got some extra blankets or clothes, maybe some old coats that don’t fit no more, you can give them to folks who need ’em. Makes you feel good to help out, and it sure helps them stay warm.
You can give some food out too. Make a big pot of soup or something. There are lots of places that will take it. Homeless shelters and such, they are always in need of help.
When it’s this cold outside, them poor homeless folks, they got nowhere to go. You see them out there, you can tell them where the shelters are. It’s not a fun time when it’s winter. Every little bit helps during the cold activities.
Fun and Games
You got young’uns in the house? Gotta keep them entertained, or they’ll be bouncin’ off the walls.
- Play some games. Cards, board games, whatever you got.
- Tell stories. Kids love a good story.
- Sing songs. Don’t matter if you can’t carry a tune, just have fun!
Sometimes, it’s good to just turn off all them electronic things, them phones and computers and such. Just be together and talk, or just sit quiet. It’s good for the soul, you know?
If You Gotta Go Out
Now, sometimes, you just gotta go out, even when it’s cold outside. If you do, make sure you bundle up good!
Wear a hat. Keeps the heat from escaping out your head.
Wear gloves or mittens. Gotta keep them fingers warm.
Wear a good coat, the warmest one you got.
Wear boots if it’s snowy or icy out. Don’t want to be slippin’ and slidin’ around.
If it is snow activities you are into, go on and have your fun. Just don’t stay out too long and catch your death of cold!
Winter activities are fun, but you gotta be smart about it.
Just Stay Warm!
Shoot, it’s so cold, it makes your teeth chatter. It’s important to keep warm, that’s the main thing.
