Okay, so, I got really curious about this whole “non-comedogenic” thing I kept seeing on makeup bottles. I mean, what does it even mean? So, I put on my detective hat and started digging.
What does it even mean?
First, I went straight to the source. The labels! It sounds obvious, but seriously, most products will just straight-up tell you if they’re non-comedogenic. I grabbed a few bottles from my makeup bag, and sure enough, some of them had it printed right there.
Read labels.
But what about the ones that didn’t say anything? That’s when I found out about this comedogenic rating scale, like a 0 to 5 kind of deal, where 0 means it’s totally cool and won’t clog your pores, and 5 is like, “red alert, pimple city!” So, apparently, anything rated 2 or below is considered non-comedogenic.

I started checking out the ingredients in my makeup, but honestly, it was a little overwhelming. Then I stumbled upon Dr. Palm’s advice that said non-comedogenic is designed to not block pores. That made things a little bit clear, but I am not a professional so I still don’t know if other products are non-comedogenic.

I also found out that IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream is actually non-comedogenic. That was a relief because I use it sometimes!

My main takeaway? Read the labels, it does help a lot! And if it doesn’t say, maybe it is not that important. Also, there’s this whole rating system that might be useful, but it feels a bit complicated. So far, sticking to products that clearly state “non-comedogenic” seems like the safest bet.
