Alright, so I wanted to find a good place to swim outdoors, you know, like a lake or a river, not some boring pool. The summer heat in California is something else, and I just needed to cool off. So, I started my little adventure to find the perfect spot.
First, I checked out a few websites. One of them, called , had a ton of info. It got me thinking, there must be some hidden gems around here. I also looked at Yelp. Yeah, Yelp, not just for food, apparently! It listed some popular spots like Lake Murray and Lake Miramar in San Diego. Sounded promising.
Then, I started asking around. A friend of mine mentioned Wonang Falls. He said it’s a waterfall with a blue pool at the bottom, and it’s pretty popular for swimming. Looked it up, and wow, it looked amazing! But it was a bit far.
- Narrowed it down to places in Southern California.
- Found some cool spots like Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve and San Vicente Reservoir.
- Cross-referenced a couple of websites to see what people were saying about these places.
So, I decided to make a day of it. I packed some snacks, grabbed my swimsuit, and headed out. I checked out Lake Jennings first. It was nice, with people fishing and having picnics. But it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.
Next, I drove to Lake Tahoe, I know it is a long way, but man, it is the best. The water was crystal clear, and the scenery was breathtaking. This place is famous, and I can see why. People were swimming, playing around, and just chilling on the beaches. It was lively but not too crowded.
My Conclusion
After a full day of exploring, I realized there are tons of great spots to swim in Southern California. It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a famous big lake, Lake Tahoe is your spot. For something more off the beaten path, there are places like Wonang Falls, but it might be a bit of a trek. I ended up spending the afternoon at Lake Tahoe. I mean, come on, Lake Tahoe. Dipped in the water, laid out on the beach, and just soaked it all in. It was the perfect way to beat the heat. I’d say it was a pretty successful little adventure. Definitely gonna do it again soon!
