Okay, so I’ve been getting a lot of questions about quick getaways from NYC. Everyone’s looking for that perfect balance of easy commute and a total change of scenery, you know? So, I decided to really dig in and explore some towns in Connecticut that fit the bill. I mean, who doesn’t love a good weekend escape?
My “Escape from NYC” Project
First things first, I grabbed a map – a real, paper map! Felt kinda old-school, but it helped me visualize everything better. Then, I started listing out the towns I’d heard good things about, places like Greenwich, Stamford, Darien… you get the idea. My main goal was to find places that were close enough for a doable train ride, but felt worlds away from the city’s craziness.

Next, I hit the Metro-North website. Gotta figure out those train schedules and travel times, right? I spent a good chunk of time just clicking around, comparing routes and figuring out which lines went where. Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first, but I slowly got the hang of it.
Then came the fun part – actually visiting these places! I planned a few day trips, starting with Greenwich. It’s super close, so it seemed like a good place to start. I hopped on the train, and boom, less than an hour later, I was there. I walked around, checked out the shops and restaurants, and just soaked up the vibe. It was definitely a different world from my Brooklyn neighborhood.
I did some research about the average travel time,Because I want to find somewhere I can easily go whenever I want.
- Greenwich about 40min
- Stamford about 50min
- Darien about 60min
I repeated this process with a few other towns, like Stamford and Darien. Each time, I took notes on the train ride, the feel of the town, the things to do, and – of course – the food! Gotta find those good local spots, right?
After a few weekends of exploring, I started to get a really good sense of which towns were the best fit for different types of getaways. Some were better for a relaxing, quiet weekend, while others were more lively and had more going on.I realized there is no the most perfect one,and I have to keep finding out what I really want.
So, that’s my little project in a nutshell. It was a lot of fun, and I definitely discovered some hidden gems that I’ll be going back to. I think it really helps to just get out there and explore, even if it’s just for a day. You never know what you might find!
